Unit 1 essay
The odyssey is a book about a very well known man named odysseus.I am writing this
paragraph as to why hed change or did not change. The main character did not change at all
throughout the book.
Ordinary World In the ordinary world there was a character named odysseus,His home
island was Ithica.Odysseus had married the beautiful ever-faithful penelope,and together they
had one son named Telemachus.(David Leeming Pg. 642-643)
Call to adventure One day odysseus was approached by Agamemnon and Menelaus to
join them in the battle of Against troy.(Pg.643)
Refusal of call when Agamemnon and Menelaus came to visit odysseus he pretended that
he did not know them,And even if he did know them he prefered not to go to war over an
unfaithful women.Odysseus dressed as a peasant and began to plowing the field and sowing it
with salt.(Pg.643)
Meeting the mentor: Odysseus had a pretty good mentor named Athena the daughter of
Zeus.Athena really supported odysseus and helped him throughout his problems.When odysseus
returns home Athena prefered him to dress like a beggar to see if his friends really were loyal to
him will he was away.(Pg.690)

Crossing the threshold When they came to the coast line of the lotus eaters they fell in as
soon as possible because they were very different from odysseus.They were different because the
lotus eaters ate the lotus flower which made them forget things that they were doing.(Pg.658)
Allies,Tests,and Enemies The cyclops was a test and an enemy because odysseus and his
men were trapped inside the cage with the cyclops which made them have to figure out a way for
them to escape.The way they escaped was they gave the cyclops some wine to wash down the
scraps of the men that he had eaten.When the cyclops fell asleep Odysseus put a sphere on some
fire and he aimed it right at the cyclops's eye,and the big bolder moved so that they could
escape.Here through the paragraphs Odysesseus did not change.
Approach Odysseus used a different approach to take out the cyclops and to make sure
that the beggars did not have any weapons or could not get out of there house.
The maids were hung because they were messing with the beggars.By his side he had the
swineherds and telemachus.
In conclusion Odysseus did change through the store because he was lying to his men the
whole time.Odysseus had his men thinking that all of them was going to return home but they
did not return it was just him.The men did not return because the killed a cattle of the sun gods
and ate it,The sun god told Odysseus that he was going to be the only one to return because of
the selfish deed his men had done and he kept it a secert. Odysseus is a self centered and a very
dishonest person because his men was very loyal to him and he backstabbed them by keeping a
secret like that is very cruel and very fake.
