Currently, the school is made up of 75 teachers and 1120 students. It is well
equipped with language, graphic, chemistry and
physics laboratories, two big gyms and a small theatre. The main subjects
are : Italian ,Latin, English History, Philosophy, Biology,
Chemistry, Mathematics, History of Art, Drawing, Physical Education,Natural
Sciences and Religion.
The School is focused on the close relationship between scientific and
humanistic knowledge, and it aims to give young people
the cultural tools to tackle any type of university studies and the challenges
of the contemporary world with an international
perspective.
Alongside with the commitment in the process of educational innovation and
curricular activity, the Identity of our school has also
been characterized by choices aimed at strengthening the development of
students and teachers regarding foreign languages and
Ici (ex, English courses with mother-tongue experts finalized to acquire
international certifications, computer based courses to
acquire ECDL qualifications).
Since 2015 there are two classes Involved in Cambridge University IGCSE
qualifications.
Our school is located In Potenza, the main town of Basilicata, a small region
between the Tyrrhenlan sea on the west side and the
lonian sea on the east side ,in the very heart of southern Italy.
Our region has experienced a long history of isolation and poverty that led to
emigration towards Northern Italy and Europe till the
a.
In the last 30 years Basilicata has been facing ,on one hand, a touristic and
industrial development in specific areas and, on the other
hand a slow but steady depopulation in the small villages of the region .
As a matter of fad many students come from very little villages near Potenza
(nearly 45%) where they dont have many chances to
meet new or foreign people and to exchange experiences.
For this reason our school promotes European exchange projects and
partnerships with associations that promote study abroad
programmes (ex. Comenius, PON, AFS Intercultura exchanges, c-twinning
projects) and every year it involves students in various
school clubs and activities such as : sport competitions, subject
competitions, olympiads, exhibitions, contests at local and National
level,ECDL computer courses, theatre and art workshops ,chess courses
,orienteering meetings with local and national universities
and institutions of the labour market, school magazine club, school trips to
Italian and European main cities, conferences with
representatives of the Italian cultural ,scientific and political world.
Groups of students have partecipated also to campaigns organized by NGOs to
collect money, food , clothes, stationery for
refugee people arid for school projects in Africa .
What are the activities and experience of your organisation in the areas
relevant for this project? What are the skills and/or expertise
of key persons involved In this project?
In the last years the school has been involved in:
1) Comenius Projects (topics: migration, transition from old to modern
society, youth mobility, volunteering, water as the heritage
or future generations)
2) European Projects for studying/working experiences abroad
3) Class exchange projects (with Germany, Sweden and Rumenla)
I) Orienteering meetings with local and national universities and institutions
to give students a wider view of educational
opportunities and of the labour market
be key persons involved In this project are teachers and school staff that
have been involved in the above activities for many years.
In particular :
Anna Croce, contact person and English teacher, is responsible of European
partnerships and projects and coordinator of the
projects in which our institution is now involved (Erasmus KA1) . She is also
exam officer for Cambridge Intemational University.
She has project management skills as since 2007 she has run various Comenius
multilateral and bilateral partnerships with many
partner countries such as rurkey, Spain, Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Bulgaria,
Czech Republic, France and UK ,The main topics of
these projects have been studying and working opportunities for young people
in the EU, fighting stereotypes, volunteering,
comparison between different cultures . She has a very good knowledge of the
Erasmus + programmes, as she has attended 2
training courses within the Erasmus + youth and school staff programmes. Both
of them organized by the NA Italy in her hometown
Potenza in which she has also been a lecturer.
Elisabetta Grimaldi is an English teacher who is also responsible of AFS
Intercultura and of European partnerships and projects . She
is teacherssupport contact person for Cambridge International University. She

mainly comprised of remnants of agriculture, and then Industry and service

is quite low, and the econom one is hardly higher. One or the reasons for this
is the high unemployment rate, with many students

Technology, Economy and Humanities/languages. At the same

For the past 4 years, the school has undergone extensive reconstruction
(ending April 2016) and the lack of conditions in the
temporary facilities led many good students to look for another school. In
addition, the appeal of the big city nearby, on the one
hand, and the attraction of high marks and easier access to university from
private schools, on the other hand, have changed the
Face of the school. We now have more disadvantaged students and this
constitutes a big challenge in didactic and pedagogical
lerms and in our efforts to integrate and guarantee equal opportunities to
all.

What are the activities and experience of the partner organisation In the
areas relevant for this project? What are the skills and/or
expertise of key persons involved n this project
Extra school and extracurricular activities are highly appreciated by our
students and teachers: the debate team, volunteering
activities, the theatre group, the schools magazine, 5ports teams, the
schools traditional dances group and a vocal group with a
long-lasting tradition, highly remarkable results and deep appreciation. Over
the past years, our school has been concerned with the
construction of an important European dimension, our students being involved
in different exchange programmes with students
from numerous European countries, establishing partnerships and having access
to European programmes. In this respect, we try to
ncourage direct contribution of youngsters to the discovery and apprehension
of other peoples, to the deep understanding of the
European identity of fellowship between its citizens. On presenting the
activities of our school, we must confess that, at this age,
students are more sensitive towards what they see, live, share, build together
with colleagues of the same age from other European
countries. They need to overcome fear and get to know each other, notice their
similarities and distinguish their differences,
appreciate their complementarities and accept each other to be able to
understand and build a future together. Therefore, as

E. Description of the Project
Application Form
Call: 2016
KA2 - Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices
Strategic Partnerships for Schools Only
Form VersEan: 307
What is the rationale of this project, in terms of objectives pursued and
needs and target groups to be addressed? Why should this
project be carried out transnationally?
rtners from Italy, Portugal, Rumenia and Austria will develop a project on one
of the most important issues of our society and
highly upto-date: Migration and Hospitality . Migration has impacted widely on
European societies, and I continue to do so because
of widespread conflicts. This has been leading, on one hand, to new forms of
discrimination, social exclusion, racism and
xenophobia, but on the other hand, to the development of a feeling of empathy,
social commitment and indusive social policies.
Migration Is everywhere - people are moving which leads to changes changes
give reason to feel threaten; you want to protect
yourself, to keep the others away, lo build fences, lo control the borders.
But there might be also other reactions. Changes can also
be chances. And our project want to make the Changes to a Challenge. And this
challenge we have to play in a team, thats why this
project has to be carried out transnationally..
e are convinced that through this project we will contribute to to all these
mentioned before and biing positive changes in the life
of our students and our small societies.
The project represents an opportunity for students and teachers in
participating countries to compare and analyze different points
of view and different approaches on these issues, to be directly involved
through volunteering actvities and meeting with migrant
communities Another important stage is the development of skills and
attitudes. By participating in this project, students will
develop critical thinking, will have the ability to analyze information,
express opinions, take part In discussions and debates arid
participate in community actions.
Main Objectives
to develop the knowledge of the migration phenomenon, Its causes and effects
to understand the real living conditions of migrants and their point of view
to analyze the impact of migration at European,national and local level;
to reflect on the basic values of the European Union, that is respect of human
rights, democracy, cooperation, etc.
to propose possible social Inclusive policies
to increase the knowledge and understanding of the differences and to
encourage tolerance and respect for other cultures;
to make student aware of the necessity to combat racism and xenophobia, to be
able to live with each other and learn from their
differences
j- to improve skills in foreign languages and to increase motivation towards
language learning;
- to acquire and to improve students and teachers skills not only in the
subject area of the project, but also in terms of teamwork,
. Equipping students and teachers with tools required to design and implement
an effective dialogue during workshops. Activities
on the topic of migration and hospitality;
. Creating a platform from which young people get the opportunity to share
knowledge, create and have dialogues about the issues
of todays modern society.
The theme of this project is of utmost importance to us due to the fact that
the phenomenon of migration has been a serious
problem raising awareness In Romanea In the course of the last decades. The
reasons are mainly economic. Our county was a monoindustrial area, and after several factories were dosed, the youngsters could
no longer find any workplace. Therefore, they either left
the country or, in the case of highschool students, they decided to make a
career abroad or study in other European countries. The
activities of this project will be really helpful as many things will be
clarified, so that youngsters, regardless of their backgrounds. will
truly become aware of their role In todays modern society, shaping, at the
same time, a better future.
AUSTRIA
On the one hand it is innovative because we never had a project to exactly to
that topic on the other hand it is complementary to
many project with social skills and focusing on responsible cuelen arid a
peaceful world.
How did you choose the project partners and what experiences and competences
will they bring to the project? How was the
partnership established and does it involve organisations that have never
previously been involved in a similar project? How will the
tasks and responsibilities be distributed among the partners?
Partners have been chosen using Institutional data base such as etwinningschool education gateway) and also have been
selected on the base of successful previous exchange projects.
Most of the partner schools have already worked in European projects so they
can share competence and expertise.; but for some
schools it will be the first partnership and so they will surely offer new
ideas and enrich their experiences.
All partecipating schools have appropriate competences to handle their tasks
and activities (IT labs, constant access to internet and
qualified teachers).
e all want to cooperate, share knowledge and compare cultural heritage. We
also want to work with local organizations which
have never been previously involved in a similar project and that are locally
involved in this type of issues . Partners will have the
