Professor Michael Young
Adjunct Associate Professor Michael Young is a leading gure in
project, program and portfolio management. He is a graduate of
the University of New South Wales (Bachelor of Science), Australia
and the Australian Defense Force Academy, holds a Master of
Business Administration and is currently completing a PhD. He
also holds qualications in training and assessment, training
design and development, quality auditing, project management,
management and leadership, strategic procurement and has
completed the Company Directors course. He is a Fellow of the
Australian Institute of Project Management, the Australian Institute
of Management and the Association for Project Management (UK).
Michael has over 20 years experience in managing high risk and international projects in
government, IT, logistics, transport, engineering and facilities. He is a regular speaker at project
management symposiums, congresses and conferences all over the globe. He is a Director (and
Board member) of the Australian Institute of Project Management, a member of the International
Project Management Association Research Management Board and Vice President Research for
GPM Global (Green Project Management).
Michael has been instrumental in the development and implementation of project management
standards both in Australia and internationally. He has led the development of competency-
based professional standards for senior project managers and portfolio managers in Australia,
has contributed to the development of various ISO standards as a member of ISO Technical
Committee 258 and was one of twelve leading experts that authored the IPMA Individual
Competence Baseline. He has also contributed to standards developed by PMI and Axelos and
has published over 50 books, book chapters, academic research and conference papers as well
as many articles in professional and industry magazines and journals.
