A Message from the Principal

Welcome back to students and staff. A warm welcome to our new Year 7 students. It is lovely to have you all
working together with us in our school. We trust that you all enjoyed a fun, relaxing time with family and friends.

Students have returned to school looking lovely and fresh from holidays in their uniforms. The wearing of
uniform has so far been excellent across the school. We thank those students who are complying with our
uniform regulations. As the new uniform is increasing with more people wearing it, we are appreciating more and
more the efforts of the P&C, students and staff who were involved in the selection of the new uniform which
looks fantastic.

The timetable for students in Years 11 and 12 has been an adjustment for many, with the introduction of period
zeroes and period sixes for most students. Whilst every effort was made to complete our timetable in advance,
unforeseen circumstances unfortunately prevented this from occurring. In 2016, teachers and senior executive
staff spoke to students in large groups about the possibility of period zeroes and period sixes but it wasnt until
the later part of the holidays that we had the particulars of how this would impact on individual students. This did
not leave time for us to communicate in advance the specifics of the impact to students, so I apologise if this
came as a surprise to some families. It is, however, pleasing to see that the vast majority of students have been
here bright and early, eager to learn at 7:30am as required in their timetable.

Please note:

Period 0 goes from 7:30-8:30am

Period 6 goes from 2:40-3:40pm

Our current timetable is considered a draft and students are encouraged to speak to their teachers about possible
changes if they are negatively impacted by the placement of a lesson. Some subjects, such as Biology, have
already requested a change from Period 6 to Period 0. In this instance all students and the teacher were available
to attend at the proposed time change, and so this change will be made. If students would like assistance with
resolving timetabling concerns, they are encouraged to speak with their teacher, year advisor or deputy principal.

Communication with Transport NSW has been initiated enquiring as to whether it might be possible to introduce
an additional bus service, assisting students to arrive at school by 7:30am. Progress with this enquiry will be
provided as developments occur.

Students have been informed on their first day of school that I have encouraged teachers to ask students to
engage in a home study program to enhance the work they do at school. With high expectations as one of our
strategic directions we are hoping to generate additional motivation in our students to embrace learning
opportunities available to them and reinforce these through consistent hard work in and outside of school.

The first P&C Meeting for 2017 will be next Tuesday evening 7th February at 6:30pm in the Staff Common Room.
All interested people are invited to attend.

We have had unwelcome delays relating to anticipated maintenance and refurbishment of some classrooms in
the school. We are making every effort to have these improvements enacted as soon as possible. In the
meantime, we are grateful to our students and staff who have been exceptional in demonstrating tolerance in
less than desirable accommodations.
 We have decided to introduce a smaller, more regular communication to parents and students. Our aim is to send
emails to all students and their parents each Friday afternoon outlining things of note for the upcoming week. We
hope this will be helpful and look forward to hearing your feedback.
