SCENE 1
INT. CELLAR - DAY.
The Mother is hard at work on her current robot project, the
camera watches from behind.
LONG SHOT - MOTHER - ZOOM OUT OF ROOM

INT. PASSAGE/STAIRS - CONTINUOUS

ZOOM OUT AWAY FROM DOOR WITH 'DO NOT DISTURB SIGN'.
LONG SHOT
Daughter holding diary at bottom of the stairs looks at the
sign sadly.
MEDIUM SHOT
She then sits at the bottom of the stairs crying into lap
and begins writing in the diary.
HIGH ANGLE - DAUGHTER LOOKING UP
Wipes last tear, gets up, puts the diary on the stair table
and leaves in a trance.
CUT TO: MOTHER IN
CELLAR
INT. CELLAR
MEDIUM SHOT - MOTHER WORKING
DAUGHTER
*spoken from passage* I'm going
out.
MOTHER
*paying no attention* Ok.
EASE IN - CLOCK TICKING BEHIND MOTHER
FADE TO BLACK.
SCENE 2
INT. PASSAGE/STAIRS - MORNING
FS - DOOR
*Knock knock*

*footsteps as mother approaches the door*

MCU - MOTHER

*steps back* Facial expressions go from: surprised, to

anticipation, to disbelief.
POLICE
There's no easy way to tell a
mother this, but your daughter was
found in the lake this morning, it
appears she drowned. We are sorry
for your loss, if you need anything
call this number.
POV - MOTHER
Looks down at card. *hears the door shut*
FS
Mother goes near the stairs and holds onto the bannister for
support.
POV - MOTHER
Notices the diary and picks it up, before wandering
aimlessly back to the cellar.
LONG SHOT

SCENE 3
INT. CELLAR - MOMENTS LATER.
MEDIUM SHOT
CU - MOTHER
Mother gets an idea and puts diary on workshop side.
FS - BEHIND MOTHER
We watch her work.
BCU
Plugs in robot.
FS - CELLAR
Robot sits up and comes to life.

MOTHER
...
EASE IN - MCU - ROBOT
ROBOT
*boops and beeps*
MCU - MOTHER
MOTHER
This just won't do... *looks
around*
POV - MOTHER - PAN - HALTS ON DIARY
FS
Mother scanning diary pages, makes a few clicks on the
computer and reboots robot.
CLOSE UP ON POWER BAR. DRAINS THEN REFILLS.
FS - ROBOT
ROBOT
*gets up off table* ... *boop beeps
crackles voice* ... I'm going out
now.
MEDIUM SHOT - ROBOT - PAN
Robot leaves cellar, pan ends on robot, the mother in shock
follows hesitantly entering and leaving shot...
FADE TO BLACK.

SCENE 4
EXT. PARK LAKE - EVENING.
POV - MOTHER - LONG SHOT.
Robot walks to edge of lake.
MOTHER
What are you doing?! Get away from
there!
Mother goes to stop the robot but forfeits before making a
real attempt, so just watches. Robot goes to the edge.

ROBOT
Everyone has turned their backs on
me.
Now its my turn.
MEDIUM SHOT - MOTHER
MOTHER
Wait!
LONG SHOT
Robot falls in and sinks to the bottom.
FADE TO BLACK.
SCENE 5
INT. PASSAGE/STAIRS
ROLL SHOT - ON DIARY OPEN PAGE
