ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
Competencies 2, 11 and 12 were thoroughly developed during this field experience. I took ample
amount of time to reflect and write in my journal each day, before and after each school day. I took
the time to observe the school as much as I could, get a feel for the culture and understand each
student individually, paying close attention to their needs and interests, as well as keeping in mind
the objectives and values of this particular host school. I acted responsibly and professionally with
all of my peers, the students, and staff at the school, at all times. I also felt I was able to manage the
classroom sufficiently, taking responsibility for the children, keeping the classroom under control
and making sure that the students are able to keep on task.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
Competencies 1 and 9 were a little bit harder to develop, although I was able to get a feel for the
culture of the school, I wasn't quite there long enough to make anything more than an assumption
about what appeared to be the values, beliefs and goals for this particular host school. Also, I
would like to take part in extra curricular activities at the school, perhaps help organize a Talent
Show, or an after school Art club. This way, I can become more involved with the students outside
of the curriculum and engage with parents in order to organize and initiate the integration of these
activities.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

If at all possible, I would like to get feedback from the students from the host school where I will be
doing my field work. I will create an evaluation form for the kids to fill out, I think this would help me
gain some more perspective about my strengths and weaknesses. As well, I'd like to have the kids
write journals or draw pictures which will help me to better understand them as individuals. I would
like to keep perhaps two or three notebooks where I can organize my thoughts and reflection, and
perhaps it would also be a good idea to record or film myself during a lesson to see what should be
altered to create a better experience for the children. Along with this, I'd love to organize some sort
of lunch time activity with the children, to get to know them better, and during the organization
process I'll be given the opportunity to converse with both parents and staff members.
