The principle of heat-shrinking, a technical explanation
Thermoplastic materials are composed of extremely long molecular chains in a random arrangement. Their strength depends upon the dis-
tance between the molecules and the crystalline nature of the molecular structure. In fact, it is the crystals that contribute most of the
strength.
As the thermoplastic is heated to above its crystalline melting point (120C) (248F), the
crystals disappear. The molecules can then easily slip past each other, so the material
flows.
During the investigation of atomic energy, the important discovery was made that expo-
sure of some plastic
materials to high-energy penetrating radiation can cause permanent crosslinking (inter-
molecular joining)
of adjacent molecules.
This linking results in the chemical bonding of the plastic structure into a new three-
dimensional matrix. Once a material has been crosslinked, it will not melt or flow at any
temperature. When heated, the crystals disappear as before, but no flow or shape
change occurs because the crosslinks act as ties between the molecules. However, the
structure remains elastic when the crystals are melted, the material behaves like a rub-
ber.
Products that have been radiation crosslinked exhibit perfect elastic memory. They can
be supplied in a deformed or expanded condition. When heated, they shrink for exam-
ple, to tightly enclose an object over which they have been placed. This makes them
ideal for covering a variety of pipes and pipe fittings, as well as wires lugs, terminals,
connectors and other electrical and electronic components.

Tyco Adhesives fabricates its Raychem compounds into their final form and then subjects them to high energy radiation, thus permanently
freezing them into the desired shape. The following illustrations demonstrate what happens to the molecular structure of crosslinked tubing
during subsequent stages of manufacture and during application.
Next to each illustration is an end view of a piece of heat-shrinkable tubing.
Once the tubing has been crosslinked, the next step in imparting
elastic memory is to heat the compound above its crystalline melting point.
The molecules are then tied together only by the crosslinks.

After cooling, the crystals reform and the tubing is locked in its
recovered form. Upon subsequent reheating, no further change in
shape will take place, unless mechanical force is applied.

carrier, combined with a hotmelt or mastic coating.
The main purpose of the crosslinked carrier, called backing, is to provide a strong barrier against electrical current, permeation and

The adhesive assures long-term bonding of the backing to the pipe, and provides added electrical resistance and mechanical strength.

Three-layer coating
For the increasingly common three-layer factory-applied coatings, Raychem has developed a three-layer field-applied joint coating. To pro-
vide a homogeneously coated pipe surface in the girth weld area, a layer of two-component epoxy is first applied to the pipe surface. A spe-
cially designed shrink sleeve is then applied over the wet epoxy.
The three-layer coating performs extremely well in resisting cathodic disbondment. It offers high shear resistance against soil load, and con-
sequently ensures long service life.

How to select a heat-shrinkable product Girth weld coating
Raychem heat-shrinkable sleeves lead the world in corrosion protection of pipeline girth welds. They are specifically designed to combine
ease of field installation with a level of performance that matches, or exceeds, that of the main pipe coating.

Climate conditions
Project specifications and/or local standards must be observed, when specifying a shrinkable sleeve for protection of a girth weld. To ensure
an optimal choice, the following parameters must be considered:
As temperature increases, the overall resistance of a coating generally decreases. Therefore, in order to ensure adequate lifetime,
it's important to select a coating that has been correctly performance tested at maximum operating temperature.
Raychem mastic coated sleeves are available for temperatures upto 80C (176F), and hotmelt sleeves upto 120C (248F).
Raychem heat-shrinkable sleeves are compatible with all commonly used pipe coatings, although somewhat different installation procedures
may be required, depending on the line coating employed. The sleeves adhere well to coal tar (CT), coal tar enamel (CTE), asphalt-based
coatings, fusion-bonded epoxies (FBE), and all commonly applied polymer pipe coatings including polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP).
Some polypropylene coated pipes require special Raychem sleeves. When using polypropylene pipe coating, please consult your Raychem
representative for assistance in selecting the appropriate heat-shrinkable joint protection sleeve.

The Raychem HTLP three-layer system is often used on three-layer polyethylene pipe coatings to provide factory original quality to the
field applied girth weld protection. The same system can also be applied on two-layer polyethylene.
Cutback distance
When buried, larger diameter pipes incur higher soil stress due to the weight of the soil above them. These stresses create tangential forces,
which in low performance coatings tend to cause wrinkling at the two, four, eight and ten oclock positions on the pipe. The best way to
combat these forces is with high-modulus polymer shrink sleeves coated with high shear-strength adhesive.
Raychem heat-shrinkable sleeves possess the highest modulus in the industry, while the hotmelt adhesives are made of the finest copoly-
mers. Raychem hotmelt coated shrink sleeves provide the greatest resistance to soil stresses on all diameters. Below 20 inches diameter,
Raychems high performance mastic coated shrink sleeves often provide a good balance of performance, economy and ease of installation.

Adverse soil conditions
Ogged areas are expected, the use of soil stress-free coatings with excellent cathodic disbondment and long term water immersion resist-
ance is essential.
Raychem HTLP60, HTLP80, and WPC120 are all outstanding in this respect.
They have consistently been rated the best girth weld coatings in tests carried out by major pipeline companies worldwide.
Directional drilling
Directional drilling places tremendous stress on a pipe coating and especially on the girth weld coating.
Raychem DIRAX kits are designed to protect girth welds in this punishing environment. The DIRAX system starts with the application of an
epoxy primer coating, on top of which the DIRAX sleeve is installed. The sleeve is a fiberglass -reinforced polymer laminate with an extreme-
ly high-shear resistant crystalline adhesive. In numerous tests and customer trials, DIRAX surpasses even the toughest conditions.
For laybarge installed pipelines, Raychem WPCZ or WPC100M are ideal girth weld coatings, being easy and quick to install, and fully resist-
ant to the pour of hot marine mastic infills. They are compatible with all commonly used main pipe coatings e.g. bitumen, coaltar enamel,
FBE, PE, Polyprop etc. For elevated temperature lines use WPC100M which has a 100C (212F) continuous rating subsea.
For reelship installed pipelines, Raychem HTLP80 has a proven track-record on three-layer polyethylene coated pipes, even when
reeled/unreeled under tropical conditions. For pipe coatings other than polyethylene, please consult Tyco Adhesives for correct reelship
installed sleeve selection.
Climatic conditions
Extreme climatic conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.) can have an impact on the sleeve selection and the installation method. In cold conditions it
will be necessary to organize proper field storage; rain requires a tent. In hot climates, it may be better to select a high temperature sleeve,
even for a low pipe operating temperature, as the pipe could be exposed to very high ambient temperatures for an extended period during
construction.
Pipe preparation depends upon the project specification and the resulting choice of products. In order to obtain the desired performance,
pipe preparation must be carried out in accordance with the relevant product installation instructions.
Drying
In some cases it may be necessary to dry the pipe before cleaning, in order to make sure that mud does not enter into any
surface irregularities.
Grease removal
If oil or grease is present, this must be removed using a Tyco Adhesives approved solvent.
Cleaning

The metal surface and the adjacent coating must first be cleaned.
The ideal method is shot or grit blasting, which provides a defined surface roughness and the required standard of cleaning. In some cases,
cleaning with a hand wire brush is sufficient. When using a motor-powered wire brush, care should be taken that the surface is not polished
smooth. Preparation of the pipe ends varies, depending on the type of mill coating. On a two-layer PE system there is often a temporary end
protection, which needs to be removed. The epoxy layer of a three-layer system can remain in place.
Preheating
The pipes must be preheated in accordance with the installation instructions of the products concerned. In most cases preheating with a gas
torch flame is sufficient. Inductive Heating is also effective, though normally not required.
Depending on the mechanical requirements of the local or project specification, the appropriate sleeve construction (thickness) is selected.
Raychems standard product matrix copes with all international standards. For special conditions a customized sleeve construction can be
produced.
All of the above parameters influence the type of heat-shrinkable sleeve required to provide the best performance, ease of installation and
value. The following guidelines will help you to decide which sleeve is right for your application.

R TPS, TPSM Tubular Girth Weld Sleeve
One-piece heat-shrinkable sleeve for corrosion protection of girth weld joints
on various types of piping systems.
Product description
TPS, TPSM field joint coating and sealing.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Visco-elastic mastic sealant.
Second layer: Thick-walled, radiation-cross-linked, high density polyethylene.
TPS(M) are heat-shrinkable, tubular sleeves which prevent corrosion of welded pipe joints in
distribution lines for sizes up to 8.625"/DN200. For larger sizes, the use of the Raychem
wrap-around sleeve, WPC, is recommended. This mechanically strong and flexible sleeve is
compatible with all standard pipeline coatings and outer jackets.
The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and dried (pre-heated) pipe surface without primer. Heat is applied to the sleeve, which shrinks to form a
tight fit around the joint. While shrinking, the visco-elastic sealant homogeneously flows to cover the complete surface and fills in all surface irregularities.

R WPC ambient Wrap-around Girth Weld Sleeve
The WPC ambient with PCI (Permanent Change Indicator) is a two-layer field-
joint coating system for pipeline operating at ambient temperature.

Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Visco-elastic low preheat sealant adhesive.
Second layer: Radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene with PCI
(Permanent Change Indicator)
WPC ambient is a wrap-around heat-shrinkable, ready-to-fit assembly for the
corrosion protection of field girth weld joints in distribution and transmission networks, for
use especially in low shear or low stress environments and in moderate climates. (Above
pipe diameter DN500 (20") in high shear and high stress environments, the use of WPC-C50,
HTLP60 is recommended or contact a Tyco Adhesives representative).
WPC ambient is compatible with standard pipe coatings. WPC ambient can also be used for coating bare, replacement pipe sections and large
radius bends. The system is designed to be applied with minimum preheating of the pipe.
The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and pre-heated pipe surface without any primer being required. During installation, the heat-shrinkable sleeve
is wrapped around and shrunk to form a tight fit around the joint. During recovery, the adhesive softens and flows to form a perfect bond with the pipe surface
providing protection against corrosion. The radiation cross-linked outer layer forms a tough barrier against mechanical damage and moisture transmission.

water pipelines operating at ambient temperature.

Second layer: Thick-walled, radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene with PCI
(Permanent Change Indicator)
WaterWrap is a wrap-around heat-shrinkable, ready-to-fit assembly for the corrosion protec-
tion of field girth weld joints in water distribution and transmission systems.
WaterWrap is compatible with standard pipe coatings.
WaterWrap can also be used for coating bare, replacement pipe sections and large radius bends. The system is designed to be applied with
minimum preheating and is ideal for large diameter water pipe.
The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and dried (pre-heated) pipe surface without primer. During installation, the heat-shrinkable sleeve is
wrapped around the pipe and heat is applied. The heat activated backing contracts to form a tight fit around the joint eliminating entrapped air and filling the
smallest of crevices with a high quality, corrosion inhibiting Visco-elastic adhesive sealant. The permanently cross-linked polyolefin outer layer forms a tough
barrier against mechanical damage and moisture transmission.

The WPCZ with PCI (Permanent Change Indicator) is a two-layer field-joint coating
system under heated infill systems in offshore networks.

First layer: Visco-elastic sealant adhesive.
Second layer: Thin-walled, radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene with PCI
(Permanent Change Indicator)
WPCZ is a heat-shrinkable wrap-around sleeve specially engineered for use on offshore, weight-coated
pipelines incorporating hot marine mastic pour or other infill systems at the girth weld. WPCZ tolerates
the pouring of this very hot and heavy mastic without losing any of its corrosion prevention ability.
WPCZ is a very thin two-layer system, which has a fast shrink response.
WPCZ is used on various types of piping systems, including oil, gas, water, and pipe-type cable.
During installation, snugly wrap the sleeve centrally around the joint area, heat and apply the closure patch and continue to heatshrink (125C (257F)) the sleeve from
its supplied size to fit tightly around the joint. Heat is applied from the center outwards and using standard propane torches. As the sleeve shrinks, the mastic flows and
thoroughly coats the pipe surface providing protection against corrosion.

WPC-C50, WPC65M, WPC100M field-joint coatings.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Visco-elastic adhesive sealant.
Second layer: Radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene with PCI
(Permanent Change Indicator).
WPC C50, 65M,100M are wrap-around heat-shrinkable sleeves specially suitable for
higher stress conditions caused both by elevated temperatures and by soils with
severe contraction between wet-dry cycles. The WPC C50,65M,100M are compatible
with most commonly used steel pipe coatings and are used for girth weld
protection or to recoat (rehabilitate) long pipe sections and large radius bends.
WPC may be cut to the appropriate length to cover all pipe diameters.
The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and pre-heated pipe surface without any primer being required. During installation, the heat-shrinkable

system for pipeline operating at 120C (248F) temperature.

Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: High shear-strength copolymer adhesive.
Second layer: Radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene with PCI
(Permanent Change Indicator).
WPC120 is a wrap-around, heat-shrinkable sleeve designed for corrosion prevention and seal-
ing on various types of piping systems (oil, gas, water, pipe-type cable, etc.), which operate
at temperatures up to 120C (248F). WPC120 is specially suited for higher stress conditions
caused both by elevated temperatures and by soils with severe contraction between wet-dry cycles. WPC120 is normally used for girth weld pro-
tection of steel pipes coated with Raychem Rayclad120 heat shrinkable tape. WPC120 may be cut to appropriate length to cover all pipe diameters.
The system is designed to be applied with minimum preheating of the pipe.
While installing, WPC120 is wrapped around the joint, a closure patch is then installed (already pre-attached if Uni-sleeve) forming a tube, and the sleeve is shrunk in
place. No epoxy primer is required. Upon heat exposure, the sleeve starts shrinking from its expanded size to form a tight fit around the substrate. During recovery,
the copolymer adhesive softens and flows to form a perfect bond with the pipe surface providing pipe protection against corrosion. The radiation cross-linked outer
layer forms a durable barrier to moisture and mechanical damage.

For a 150 mm (6") maximum cutback of coating at each pipe end, but with a minimum specified 75 mm (3") installed overlap of sleeve onto line coating, the
calculated width will be 2 (150 + 75) x 1,1 = 495 mm (19.5") and the standard supplied width will be 500 mm (20").

R PPS120 Wrap-around Girth Weld Sleeve
The PPS120 with PCI (Permanent Change Indicator) is a 4-component field-
joint coating system for high temperature, polypropylene coated pipelines
operating up to 120C (248F) temperature.
Product description
PPS120 field-joint coating.
Construction: Four-component system:
First component: High shear strength copolymer adhesive layer.
Second component: Thick, radiation cross-linked polyethylene layer with PCI
(Permanent Change Indicator).
Third component: High Temperature Adhesive Strips.
Fourth component: End seals composed of a two-component liquid epoxy with fiberglass
reinforcement.
PPS120 is a wrap-around, heat-shrinkable sleeve designed for corrosion prevention and sealing on high temperature, polypropylene coated
piping systems, which operate at temperatures up to 120C (248F). PPS120 is specially suited for higher stress conditions caused both by
elevated temperatures and by soils with severe contraction between wet-dry cycles. PPS120 is normally used for girth weld protection of
steel pipes coated with polypropylene. PPS120 may be cut to appropriate length to cover all pipe diameters. The system is designed to be
applied with special and user-friendly preheating methods.
While installing, PPS120 is wrapped around the joint, a closure patch is then installed (already pre-attached if Uni-sleeve) forming a tube, and the sleeve
is shrunk in place. Using special installation components provided with the PPS120, a two-component liquid epoxy is applied over the ends of the PPS120
and adjacent polypropylene coating in order to form the ultimate soil stress resistant high temperature girth weld protection. (See installation instruction

The most widely used girth weld protection system for three-layer coated pipes.

HTLP60, HTLP80 field-joint coatings.
Construction: Three-layer system:
First layer: Liquid epoxy, solvent-free two-component.
Second layer: High shear strength copolymer adhesive.
Third layer: Radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene with PCI
(Permanent Change Indicator).
The HTLP system is a wrap-around heat-shrinkable sleeve which replicates the structure and perform-
ance of mill-applied three-layer PE coatings. HTLP also has excellent compatibility and has been
extensively used on many other mill-applied coatings (see below). By far the majority of the girth welds
worldwide on three-layer coated pipes, diameters up to 100" (DN2500), have been coated with HTLP.
During installation, the epoxy is applied to the prepared pipe surface and the heat-shrinkable sleeve is immediately wrapped around the joint over the wet epoxy. Heat is then
applied to the sleeve which shrinks to form a tight fit around the joint. While curing, the epoxy forms strong mechanical and chemical bonds to the pipe surface & to the
copolymer adhesive layer. The radiation cross-linked outer layer forms a tough barrier against mechanical damage and moisture transmission.

R DIRAX Wrap-around Sleeve & Epoxy System
A high performance fiberglass reinforced sleeve specifically designed for girth
weld corrosion protection on pipes used in directional drilling applications.
Product description
DIRAX field-joint coating for directional drilling.
Construction: Three-layer system:
First layer: Liquid epoxy, solvent-free two-component.
Second layer: High shear strength copolymer adhesive.
Third layer: Thick, fiberglass reinforced, radiation cross-linked polyethylene.
Additional component: Wear Cone as extra protection against pull-through forces, of the
same construction as the main sleeve.
During installation, the epoxy is applied to the prepared pipe surface and the heat-shrinkable sleeve is immediately wrapped around the joint over the wet epoxy.
Heat is then applied to the sleeve, which shrinks to form a tight fit around the joint. While curing, the epoxy forms strong mechanical and chemical bonds
to the pipe surface & to the copolymer adhesive layer. The radiation cross-linked outer layer forms a tough barrier against mechanical damage and moisture
transmission. A wear cone is then applied over the leading edge of the sleeve.

Selection of sleeve width
Minimum installed overlap onto the line coating shall be 50 mm (2 inches). In order to allow for some width shrinkage during installation, please add a 10%
safety factor, to the calculated width, and then choose the next widest standard width available e.g.:
2 (maximum cutback + minimum overlap) x 1,1
For a 150 mm (6") maximum cutback of coating at each pipe end, and a minimum specific 50 mm (2") overlap of sleeve onto line coating, the calculated width
will be 2 (150 + 50) x 1,1 = 440 mm (17.5") and the standard (supplied) width will be 450 mm (17.75").
For a 150 mm (6") maximum cutback of coating at each pipe end, but with a minimum specified 75 mm (3") installed overlap of sleeve onto line coating, the
calculated width will be 2 (150 + 75) x 1,1 = 495 mm (19.5") and the standard supplied width will be 500 mm (20").

PERP is a heat-applied patch which, in combination with mastic filler, offers an economically
effective and high quality repair system for factory PE pipe coatings
damaged mechanically during transportation, storage and laying of pipes.
PERP, PERP80 and PERP120 are designed to repair the damaged areas on line coatings,
mainly 2 or 3 layer PE. PERP60E is designed to repair the damaged areas on
PE coated pipes used in high shear applications, such as directional drilling.

Installation is done with standard gas torches. To repair a damaged area, installers round out, roughen, clean and preheat the area and apply the filler tape to
fill out the holiday. PERP, cut to size, is positioned onto the treated area and heated. During heating, the adhesive softens and flows to form a tight bond with
the substrate. The bond strength builds up during cool-down and is fully retained after job completion.

Rayclad 80/120 hot-applied product coatings are designed to provide a continuous, holiday-
free, permanent barrier, which affords long-term protection for high-temperature pipelines
operating both on- and offshore. Rayclad is available in formulations for pipelines operating
up to 120C (248F), and is supplied in various widths to accommodate different pipe diam-
eters.
The installation is carried out either by professional pipe coaters in their coating plants, or near the pipeline construction site using mobile pipe coating equip-
ment. When wrapped around a properly blast-cleaned and preheated pipe, the adhesive melts. Simultaneously, the thermal recovery of the backing forces the
molten adhesive to flow, fill and completely coat the pipe surface, thereby forming a tight and uniform bond.

R80 Liquid Epoxy Coating.
Construction: 2 Component Epoxy.
R80 is a high-performance isocyanate-free co-polymerized, 100% solids, urethane/epoxy
liquid coating for the corrosion protection of pipeline systems operating at temperatures up
to 80C (176F) maximum. The synergistic effect of co-polymerizing epoxy and urethane
produces a coating characterized by the superior adhesion and low permeability of epoxy,
coupled with the enhanced toughness and abrasion resistance of urethane.
R80 offers excellent performance in the following applications: rehabilitation of coatings on existing pipelines; corrosion protection of girth
welds on new pre-coated pipelines; on-site and plant-applied line coating of bare pipe; corrosion protection of valves, fittings, bends and
components. Under normal weather conditions, the liquid coating requires no steel preheat and eliminates the need for induction or catalytic
heaters. R80 coating is ideal for retrofit corrosion protection of flowing lines where preheating is impractical. Due to its superior drip and
sag property, R80 can be applied efficiently to horizontal and vertical surfaces.
R80 coating is applied by airless spray, roller, pad, or brush on steel surfaces above 10C (50F), by certified applicators. Prior to epoxy
application, the steel surface is blast-cleaned to NACE2, SA 2 1/2 or SSPC SP-10 near white metal finish with a desired roughness profile of
50 microns (2 mils) peak to valley.
R80 components are mixed and applied to a DFT of up to 1.0 mm (40 mils) in a single coat, when brush applied. For spray application, a DFT
of 0.5 mm (20 mils) is achievable in a single coat. Additional coats can be applied if a higher DFT is required. Curing time varies with pipe
temperature. Spray-applied epoxy becomes tack-free in 75 min at 25C (77F).

ANODEFLEX 500 cathodic protection.
Construction: Two basic elements:
Central Copper Conductor: #6 AWG, serving as a low resistance busbar to deliver the
required current over considerable distance without incurring substantial longitudinal
voltage drop.
Conductive polymer: 0.5 inch (13 mm) in diameter extruded polymer jacket which
seals the copper conductor from external elements ie: chemical attack, and allows the
flow of current.
Anodeflex 500 is a long-line, flexible, cable-like anode, which is placed in continuous close proximity to the target structure. Hence, uniform
distribution of cathodic protection current is achieved on applications where many conventional anode ground beds do not work. Key to the
products performance is the central, conductive-polymer coated copper conductor. This unique construction allows current to flow long
distances down the center conductor, while allowing sufficient cathodic protection current to continuously pass through the conductive poly-
mer all along the length of the anode. In contrast to conventional CP systems, AnodeFlex 500 is placed in the ground in close proximity to
the steel surface to be protected and provides uniform distribution of protective current to each point evenly along the length of the steel
surface, maintaining the steel-to-soil "instant-off" potential in the required window of -850mv (-950mv if SRBs Present) and -1200mv.
The central anode cable is surrounded by high conductivity coke breeze, which is added separately at the time of installation. The improved
current distribution increases anode efficiency and helps prevent over-voltage problems such as hydrogen generation and associated rapid
coating disbondment. In addition, interference to foreign structures is minimized.
On poorly coated pipelines, where optimal polarization can no longer be achieved, Anodeflex 500 can often be installed as an alternative to
expensive recoating. Both on single and multi-parallel pipelines, safe levels of polarization will be restored at every point. The system avoids
difficult field recoating and greatly reduces environmental disturbance.
The anode is installed the same way as for a standard low voltage cable. AnodeFlex is delivered on easy-to-handle reel spools with sufficient lengths for most
applications. Several lengths of the anode can be arranged in simple circuit designs. AnodeFlex can be ploughed in or simply laid in an existing ditch.
AnodeFlex 500 is centrally laid in a 4" x 4" coke breeze backfill in a shallow trench and covered with soil, or the anode and coke breeze may be ploughed
directly into the ground using cable ploughing techniques. In those soil conditions where the coke breeze cannot be maintained around the polymeric cable
during its entire lifetime due to the risk of being washed away, than Anodeflex 1500-01 with pre-packaged coke breeze is recommended.

Coke breeze: Pre-packaged, high performance calcined petroleum coke breeze, serving as the active matrix in which the electrochemical
reactions take place. Designed for min. 20 years service life at max. current output of 16 mA/ft (52 mA/m).
Fabric jacket: Integrated woven, acid resistant and porous jacket holding the coke breeze in place around the anode.
Protective braid: Tough, porous, non-conductive protective braid enhancing the abrasion and damage resistance of the fabric jacket.

polarization will be restored at every point. The system avoids difficult and costly field recoating and greatly reduces environmental distur-
bance. Above ground storage tank bottoms and buried tanks can be more effectively protected from corrosion using this continuous, close
proximity anode system.
AnodeFlex 1500-1 is delivered on long length spools and because no additional coke breeze is required, the installation is as simple as laying a low voltage
power cable. Proven heat-shrinkable splice kits, Tee joints and end sealing caps are available to complete any installation design.

MEPS, MPSM socket joint coating and sealing.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Visco-elastic adhesive sealant.
Second layer: Thick-walled, radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene.
The wrap-around MEPS and the tubular MPSM are heat-shrinkable socket joint corrosion protection
coatings. MEPS/MPSM are typically used on steel or ductile iron pipes coated with PE, concrete or other
coatings, i.e. paint and zinc. MEPS/MPSM are also used to coat reducers, bends and dielectric joints.
For specially designed bell & spigot type joints, please refer to our special range of products (TISK,

The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and prepared pipe surface without any primer being required. Heating with a regular gas torch lets the high

evenly over the complete pipe surface and into all cavities.

tion on thrust-secured TIS socket joints or flange couplings that are already in
place.

TIS Wraparound sealing and protection.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Visco-elastic sealant.
Second layer: Glassfiber reinforced, radiation cross-linked, polyethylene backing.
The TISW-F is a wrap-around heatshrinkable sleeve, with a special designed zipper closing
system, allowing a fast and simple installation.The glassfiber reinforced woven backing gives
to the TISW-F a high mechanical resistance as well as a high recovery capacity.
TISW-F is installed using standard gas torches. The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and prepared pipe surface and flange. After preheating,
the corrugated cardboard sheet is wrapped around the flange to be sealed.The heat-shrinkable sleeve is positioned centrally over the flange and closed using
the zipper closure. When heated above 125C (257F) the sleeve shrinks tightly around the substrate. During recovery, the adhesive softens and flows to form
an intimate bond. The bond strength builds up during cool down and is fully retained after completion of the job.

FLEXCLAD is available in 2 mechanical classes: B30 = FLEXCLAD; C30 = FLEXCLAD-II-C30.
The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and prepared pipe surface without any primer. During installation, FLEXCLAD(-II) is to be wrapped spirally around
the bend with a 50% overlap. The carrier is heated and shrinks tightly around the substrate; at the same time, the sealing adhesive melts and is forced into all surface
irregularities, forming a thorough coating and a complete bond with the substrate.

CSEM-F/CASEAL (US) is a heat-shrinkable, wrap-around sleeve with a very high shrink ratio,
specially developed for casing/service pipe sealing.
The special adhesive inside the thick-wall CSEM-F/CASEAL(US) assures an excellent bond
between the sleeve and bare or pre-coated pipes.
The fiberglass reinforced woven and laminated backing gives the CSEM-F/CASEAL(US) sleeve a high mechanical resistance as well as a high
recovery capacity. A zipper closing system allows a simple and fast installation. In addition to the CSEM-F/CASEAL(US) sleeve, a support
sheet is supplied which provides a smooth step-down in the transition area to ensure a tight closure and enhances the mechanical strength.
CSEM-F/CASEAL(US) is installed using standard gas torches. After pipe surface preparation and preheating, the support sheet is wrapped around the transi-
tion to be sealed followed by the heat-shrinkable sleeve. The sleeve is zipper-closed, forming a tube, and shrunk in place tightly fitting around the substrate.
During recovery, the adhesive softens and flows to form a tight bond. The bond strength builds up during cool down and is fully retained after completion of
the job.

The FCWS-F/Flangeseal (US) - is a wrap-around heat-shrinkable sleeve, with a specially
designed zipper closing system, allowing a fast and simple installation. The fiberglass-rein-
forced woven backing gives the FCWS-F/Flangeseal (US) a high mechanical resistance as
well as a high recovery capacity. In addition to the sleeve, a cardboard sheet is supplied to
keep the flange nuts & bolts clean, allowing easy re-entry and disassembly when necessary.
FCWS-F/Flangeseal (US) is installed using standard gas torches. The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and prepared pipe surface and flange.
After preheating, the corrugated cardboard sheet is wrapped around the flange to be sealed. The heat-shrinkable sleeve is positioned centrally over the flange
and closed, using the zipper closure. When heated above 125C (257F), the sleeve shrinks tightly around the substrate. During recovery, the adhesive soft-
ens and flows to form a tight bond. The bond strength builds up during cool down and is fully retained after completion of the job.

FCMS/FCWS flange/pipe sealing and protection
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Visco-elastic sealant.
Second layer: Thick-walled, radiation-cross-linked, high density polyethylene
FCWS & FCMS are available in a variety of flange sizes. Both products eliminate the need for
molding and filling compounds or jellies. The visco-elastic properties of adhesives in the
installed product protect against pipe stresses caused by ground movement. The wall thick-
ness of the installed product offers additional mechanical strength in the critical transition
area. The design of FCMS and FCWS flange protection products keeps nuts and bolts free
from foreign substances (such as mastics), allowing easy re-entry and disassembly when necessary.
FCMS/FCWS are installed using standard gas torches. Both sleeves can be placed directly onto the cleaned and prepared pipe and flange surface after pre-
heating. FCMS: the tubular sleeve is to be slid over the pipe before assembling the flanges. FCWS: the wraparound sleeve for pipe sizes up to DN150 is closed
with a corrosion-resistant stainless steel channel. For pipe sizes above DN150, a heat-activated, pre-attached closure is used to bond the sleeve ends together.
In addition, a corrugated cardboard support sheet adds structural support in the transition area, keeping nuts and bolts free from adhesive. During recovery,
the adhesive softens and flows forming a tight bond. The bond strength builds up during cool-down, forming a moisture-proof seal that is mechanically
strong and resistant to vibration, impact, abrasion and corrosive gases & fluids.

The Steel Anchor Tubing Metric (SATM) is internally coated with a self-priming mastic

CPSM, XCSM are thick-wall, high expansion heat-shrinkable tubular sleeves remarkable

CPSM, XCSM are typically used for small diameters and high percentage transitions.

Product description
BLOT blocking tee coating.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: High-viscosity, high strength mastic (collar & flap).
High performance copolymer (cap).
Second layer: Thick-walled, radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene.
BLOT is a heat-shrinkable, two-piece molded part kit pre-shaped to encapsulate blocking
tees in gas distribution networks and thus protect from corrosion. The BLOT components
are fabricated from a special compound, that fit the contours of the metal tee-pieces. BLOT
consists of a "saddle" (a 30 mm (1.25") high collar provided with a square flap) and a sep-
arate cap provided with a tightly fitting plug cover.
The "saddle" is internally coated with a high-viscosity, high-strength mastic to secure the bond to the pre-coated pipe. This also makes the
installation easy. The high performance copolymer coating of the cap ensures an excellent bond to the bare steel of the tee-piece.
BLOT is installed using regular propane gas torches. The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and preheated substrate surface. The BLOT "saddle"
is fit over the tee-piece and shrunk to firmly adhere onto the service pipe and the tee base. Then the BLOT cap is put onto the blocking tee and, beginning
from the plug, shrunk tightly around. During recovery, the adhesive softens and flows to form a tight bond with the substrate. The bond strength builds up
during cool down and is fully retained after completion of the job.

Product description
STTE coating of straight pipe tees.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Copolymer adhesive
Second layer: Thick walled, radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene.
STTE consists of a 110 mm (4.33") high collar provided with a square flap 320 by 320 mm
(12.5" by 12.5").
The pieces are fabricated from a special compound, that fits the contours of the metal tee-
pieces. STTE is coated internally with a high performance hot-melt that bonds it firmly to the
bare steel parts of the tee-piece and to the adjacent pipe coating. Prior to welding the tee,
STTE is placed on the branch-off pipe, where it remains in its packaging, protected from the
environment until the time of installation.
The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and dried (pre-heated) pipe surface without primer During recovery, the adhesive softens and flows to
form a tight bond with the substrate. To fully reconstitute the line coating around the main pipe, an additional WPC sleeve, provided with a precut hole, can
subsequently be installed.

Product description
HTTE House Tap Tee.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: Copolymer adhesive
Second layer: Thick walled, radiation cross-linked, high density polyethylene.
HTTE is a heat-shrinkable molded part, pre-shaped to encapsulate house connection weld-
on tees. The thick-walled, highly expanded molded part is coated with a specially formulated
hot-melt adhesive for this application. The adhesive melts during installation and, under
pressure from the shrinking sleeve, is forced into surface irregularities, thus providing an
excellent seal. The HTTE part can be delivered with or without a cap.
To prevent corrosion of the service pipe where the house connection is made, the use of a compatible PERP patch or WPC heat-shrinkable
wraparound sleeve is recommended.
HTTE is installed using regular propane gas torches. The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and preheated substrate. The part is positioned on
the branch-off pipe and slid over the tee-piece to be protected. Using a torch, the HTTE is then shrunk in place. During recovery, the adhesive softens and
flows to form a tight bond with the substrate. The bond strength builds up during cool down and is fully retained after completion of the job.

FCMS-Cap: Flange Coupler Molded Shape Cap.
Construction: Two-layer system:
First layer: High performance copolymer & extra mastic strip on outlet.

FCMS-Cap is used in distribution networks. It has been developed for the corrosion protec-
tion and waterproof sealing of pipe ends, valve bottoms and any free-ending steel part.
The high performance copolymer coating of the cap ensures an excellent bond to the bare
steel of the tee-piece. It is usually combined with a TPSM or WPC product to seal to the line
coating.
FCMS-Cap is installed using regular propane gas torches. The installation is carried out directly on the cleaned and preheated substrate. The molded part is
slid onto the pipe so that it touches the steel end cap. The high shrink ratio backing shrinks and forms a tight fit onto the pipe end. During recovery, the adhe-

GRS(M), GRSM-F heat-shrinkable, wrap-around repair sleeves are a reliable, easy
method of permanently repairing leaking caulked/screwed joints in low-pressure (gas)
distribution networks for maximum operating pressure of 100 mbar or 10 KPa (1.45 psi).The GRS(M)/GRSM-F sleeve is ideally suited for
quick on-site repair of pitted or cracked pipe and bells. Ideal for limited space applications, it can be used in close proximity to other pipes
or cables where most systems wont fit.
GRS(M)/GRSM-F has to be used in conjunction with a mastic profile allowing the sleeve to accommodate the large diameter differences
associated with bell and spigot joints.
GRS(M) has a unique closure rail system consisting of a chromium-nickel steel channel. It suits pipe diameters up to DN150 (6"). For pipe
sizes exceeding DN150 (6"), GRSM-F should be used. GRSM-F, glass fiber reinforced, has a high shrink recovery ratio coping easily with
sharp step-downs. It is closed by a zipper shielded against flame contact by a factory applied closure patch.The sleeve inner sealant adheres
to virtually any substrate and maintains its elasticity and sealing characteristics over a wide temperature range.
The installation, simple and fast, is carried out directly on the cleaned and dried (pre-heated) surface. The mastic profile and sleeve are simply wrapped
around the pipe or joint and closed. When heated with a gas flame, the GRS(M)/GRSM-F sleeve shrinks tightly around the substrate. At the same time, the
mastic profile and the sealant that coats the inside of the sleeve soften and flow into all pits and surface irregularities, forming an excellent seal.

Kits include appropriate quantities of resin (part A) and hardener (part B), a
stirring stick (EQ-PR-MIXING-STICK), primer safety gloves (EQ-PR-
GLOVES) and an applicator pad (EQ-PR-APPLICATOR-3).
Kits contain sufficient primer for up to 1 square meter (11 square feet) of
surface coverage.

RayJoint
RayJoint can be easily installed using standard gas powered blow torches.
The crosslinked nature of the polyethylene casing means it can withstand
the heat needed to shrink the casing and bond the underlying sealant strip
without itself suffering damage. Consequently, no additional outside end-
seals are required.
