System in Philippine setting;
d) interpret the given details using
Plurality Voting System.

C. Interaction

Before we proceed, who has an idea of what

plurality voting system is?

Yes, Jane?

Thank you for the idea.

How about you Miguel?

You have a point.

Let me give the definition of plurality voting

system.

Plurality Voting System

- is also called first-past-the-post or winner-
take-all systems.
- plurality system simply award a seat to the
individual candidate who receives the most votes in
an election.

-the votes that are counted are only first place

votes.

So, in this kind of voting system, a candidate can

have a seat through having a large number of votes
than the other candidates in the sense that only first
place votes are only counted. It means that the
votes for having a second place or so on are
neglected because of the system itself. The system
is very easy to do because the basis of the counting
the votes is only the first place votes.

But for everything in this world, there is always

disadvantage of this system. Just like what I said
earlier, since the first place votes are only
recognized or counted so the votes for second or so
on are disregard no matter what.

Lets have some example.

20 32 15 23 33

1st A A C B C
place
vote
2nd C B A A B
place
vote
3rd B C B C A
place
vote

Candidate A=52
Candidate B=23
Candidate C=48

Total Votes:123 votes

Winner : Candidate A is the winner on plurality

voting system.
Did you understand the example class?

(Students response)

Lets have another example class.

20 32 15 23 33 34 25

1st R D B P D D B
place
vote
2nd D R D R B B D
place
vote
3rd P B P D R P R
place
vote
4th B P B B P R P
place
vote

Duterte=99
Roxas=20
Binay=40
Poe=23

Total votes= 182 votes

Winner= Duterte is the winner of plurality voting

system.
Do you understand now the system class?

Okay. Since you understand the discussion, let me (Students response)

ask someone who can define what plurality voting
system is?

Yes Jane?
(Students response)
Very Good!

How about you Jerry?

Thank you for the answer. (Students response)

Now, how do we determine the votes of every

candidate class?

Joshua?
(Students response)
Exactly!

Is he correct class?
(Students response)
Does the candidate need to have 50% of votes to
win the election?

Yes, Clint?
(Students response)
Thats correct.

Do have any other question class?

Thats good to hear! (Students response)

D. Integration

Now class, what do you think is the importance of

having an electoral system?

What can you say Cristy?

(Students response)

Okay, that is a fine idea.

How about you Ralph?
(Students response)
Good answer!

Well, it is very important for a country to have an

electoral system because it is for the good and fair
election of leader. Through the system, this will
determine the future of a country. With fair and
peaceful election, there will be no issue on who
should have won the election.

E. Application

I will group you into four groups (students will do

the count off). Each group should give an example
of the plurality voting system. Then one
representative will explain their example. Am I
understood class? (Students response)

In the same group, try to answer the following

questions given.

1. What is plurality voting system?

2. What is the determining factor of counting
the votes?
