SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
a) All proposed business activities must be legal activities and approved by the coordinating
teacher.
b) Each report must be between 1000 and 1200 words (not including appendices).
c) Getting ideas for your proposed idea can be conducted through interviews, research and
observation. Any findings and information gathering documents e.g. questionnaires should be
included in your report.
d) This mandatory report which comprises 20% of the students CSEC mark is graded by the
teacher who then submits final results to the Ministry.
e) Project should be presented in an ordinary and inexpensive soft folder bearing the students
name, registration number, name of subject, school, center number and the date submitted.
f) The report must contain a title page, table of contents and a Bibliography.
Description of business
In this part you are required to give a brief description of your intended business. You should
state
Justification of location
a) State the location of your intended business, e.g. 152 John Street
b) Secondly, you will have to list and explain the factors which influence your choice of location.
e.g. Closeness to raw materials.
As we already know labour is an important aspect of production and if you dont select the most
appropriate type of labour then inefficiency would occur and productivity will decline. You are
required to:
a) List the type of labour you will enjoy employ. e.g. cleaner
b) State the number of persons to be employed and for each describe their duties or functions
c) Then classify them under the three main categories of labour namely: Skilled, Unskilled or
Semi-skilled
d) Outline one reason why that type of labour is necessary.
Capital refers to money and all other assets of a person, company or industry that can be
converted into money. PHYSICAL CAPITAL consists of fixed capital and working or circulating
capital. FIXED capital refers to capital that is of a lasting nature and which does not change its
form during the course of production, e.g., factory buildings, machines and tractors. WORKING or
CIRCULATING capital changes its form or state during the course of production, e.g., raw
materials and partly finished goods.
The entrepreneur organizes the other factors of production and bear risks.
Type of production
Production refers to the combining of the factors to create goods and services to satisfy peoples
wants and needs. The types (stages) of production should not be confused with the levels of
production.
a) Identify the type(s) of production your intended business will engage itself in.
b) Describe the type of production
Levels of Production
The levels of production classify the amounts of goods and services produced under three
different headings: subsistence, Domestic and surplus or export levels.
In this part you should be able to define quality as it relates to your business and then you will
state the measures/ ways of ensuring quality in your intended business. E.g. hiring only trained
employees. TWO quality control measures which your business should adhere to should be
described.
Use of technology
We all know that technology plays an important part in any business. If businesses dont adapt
to changes in technology this will ultimately lead to making a loss.
You are required to show how you will employ technology in your operations by
Linkages
a) state the type(s) of linkages your intended business will create and
b) Outline one benefit of that type of linkage
You are required to state if your business will grow and how will it grow. E.g. employing more
machinery
Government Regulations
Government in any country has regulations as it relates to the setting up and operations of a
business.
a) Identify government regulations that impact on the business e.g. require to pay taxes.
b) Explain how the regulation identified impacts on the business.
Ethical Issues
Ethics has to do with right and wrong, good and bad. You as the entrepreneur should be aware of
such issues and its consequences.
Discuss one ethical issue relating to production, showing how it impacts on the business e.g.
Avoiding of poor labeling
FINALLY
You are required to:
a) Communication the information in the report in a logical way using correct Grammar.
b) Write in future tense, i.e. the event will occur sometime in the future
c) Use correct spelling , punctuation subject and verb agreement
d) Remember this is a report and should be written in paragraphs.
