The Nortel TN-64X
Multiplexer takes the
Synchronous Digital
Hierarchy (SDH) world into
the 10 Gbit/s era. Extensive
optical research and demon-
strations show that better dis-
tances will be achieved at
10 Gbit/s than are typical in
existing STM-16 systems.
Nortels TN-64X offers
140 km distance at 10 Gbit/s
over standard Non
Dispersion Shifted Fibre
(NDSF). The TN-64X when
combined with optical ampli-
fiers delivers error free traffic
over several hundred kilo-
metres without the need for
electrical regeneration. The
rapid increase in the demand
for bandwidth has already
created many routes where
multiple STM-16 systems run
in parallel. Nortels TN-64X
enables backbone networks to
be built more efficiently than
stacking multiple STM-16 sys-
tems on a route.
