Cold Wars 2011
Defiance, French man? we rebound it back,
Even to the bottom of thy master's throat.
And, be it spoke with reverence of the King,
My gracious father, and these other Lords,
I hold thy message but as scurrilous,
And him that sent thee, like the lazy drone,
Crept up by stealth unto the Eagle's nest;
From whence we'll shake him with so rough a storm,
As others shall be warned by his harm.

Scene 1, King Edward the Third

The Black Princes Campaign in France - 1356
Background
King Edward III is intent on taking greater control of Aquitaine and claiming
the Throne of France. He initially planned on raids in Picardy and a drive north
into the Loire. However, events in Scotland forced King Edward III north. On 7
August 1356, Edward, the Black Prince, with the backing of Parliament, arrived
in Prigueux and began a great chevauche (raid) north in an effort to relieve
allied garrisons in central France, as well as to raid and ravage the countryside.
Meanwhile, France, under constant raiding from the English was still reeling
from the terrible defeat inflicted on its nobility at Crcy 10 years earlier. Ably led by King Jean II, the
French army is looking for the opportunity to crush the invaders and ruin Edward IIIs claims.
At contest, the Kingdom of France. As the English and Allies you are running against time, Parliament
will recall the army if a great victory is not achieved. As the French you must protect the homeland against
these raiders and take back Aquitaine and the lands lost to these islanders.
Will the Black Prince and a hardened army of yeoman and men-at-arms be victorious and gain the throne
for King Edward III or will the flower of French nobility avenge Crcy and send these English dogs home
once and for all? This is your opportunity to play a prominent part in this historic period.
