Drawing sheets

Drawing sheets are sheets of paper used for drawing. They have fix
dimensions, different sizes of papers are available we use it according
to our need.

Standards of drawing sheets

ISO (international standardization organization) standard

USA standard

We will first study ISO in detail

ISO Standard of drawing sheets

There are different types of series in this standard for instance a-
series, B-series, C-series etc.

A-SERIES
In a-series there are different sizes of sheets i.e. A0 (max), A1, A2, A3,
A4, A5 (min size)

Name of paper width length

A0 841mm 841x1.411=1189mm
A1 841/1.41=594mm 841mm
A2 594/1.41=420mm 594mm
A3 420/1.41=297 420mm

Fig (a)
A convention is followed in ISO standard which is 1:1.41 now it means
that if the width of paper is 1 then its length will be 1.41 times its
width, in fig (a) in case of A0 length is 1.41 times its width

Also one can say the width of A0 is length for A1, and the width of A1
is length for A2 and so on. Mostly books are printed on A5 paper

A-series

Fig (b) will give you an idea about A-series, so A0 is the largest one
and then size of paper decreases
USA standard for drawing sheets
The USA standards are completely different from ISO standards, in
this series the classification of sheets starts from F, E, D, C, B, A

The sheet F has maximum size and A has minimum size

Sheet name Width length

F 28 40
E 34 44
D 22 34
C 17 22
B 11 17
A 8.5 11
Fig (a)

In fig (a) a convention is followed except for Sheet F

From sheet E and D we see that the width of sheet E is length for
sheet D and the width of Sheet D is half the length of Sheet E and so
on.

Sheet A is also called letter size paper and it is smaller than A4 paper
and Sheet B is also called ledger/tabloid
