Satellite terminals to ease burden

on present bus depots

Lucknow: With satellite bus terminals proposed along important
highways passing through Lucknow, Charbagh, Alambagh and
Kaiserbagh would not be the only three bus depots to rush to for
roadways passengers.

UP State Road Transport Corporation has proposed a satellite bus

terminal each on Faizabad road, Sultanpur road, Sitapur road, Hardoi
road and Kanpur road. On Saturday, district magistrate Rajshekhar
and UPSRTC officials visited two gram sabha land sites, where the
bus terminal proposed for Sultanpur road is likely to come up.

Officials vistited five acre of land at Hariharpur village at Sultanpur

road and seven acre land at Sarasava along Shaheed Path. "The new
terminals are required to shift the load from Kaiserbagh bus
terminal," said regional manager, UPSRTC, Lucknow, AK Singh.

Charbagh has 1,300 bus services operating in a day while

Kaiserbagh has another 800 buses operating from the place. Over
the years, not only the number of roadways buses have increased,
the city has expanded too.

"It's very inconvenient for people living on Sultanpur road or

Faizabad road to come to Charbagh or Kaiserbagh to board a bus,"
said the official.

To cater to people living on Faizabad road, a bus terminal would be

constructed at Gomtinagar workshop of UPSRTC. After Alambagh bus
terminal, Gomtinagar terminal would be the second bus terminal in
Lucknow to be developed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

The bus station, besides being equipped with passenger amenities,

will have a commercial complex, a mall and a cinema hall. The bus
station and the commercial complex will be developed on three acre
land out of 17 acres that Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport
Corporation (UPSRTC) has at the site. The bidding has started.
Alambagh terminal would be ready for operation of buses by
December this year.

At least 200 buses will be shifted to the terminal.

Meanwhile, land identification for terminals at Kanpur road, Sitapur

road and Hardoi road will start soon.
