emphasis the importance of: family honor, bravery and selflessness. It also demonstrates the
negative consequences of traditional cultural laws and practices in ancient China. This poem uses
a variety of multiple techniques, camera angles and symbols to portray and emphasises the
different emotions that Mulan is experiencing.

The multiple techniques used were to enhance the emotions shown by Mulan in the poem. It puts
some serious impact in the film as it expresses the feelings that are shown by the character. For
example, when the poem spoke of Mulan feeling sad, the camera started to zoom in for a close-
up to express the emotion effectively. This technique is extremely important to be used in films
as it emphasizes the feelings shown in the picture.

The symbols used were to create a clearer understanding of what the poem meant. It still
represents the exact meaning although just another way of expressing the meaning. For example,
