Dear Recruiters,

During the twelve years since its inception, Hidayatullah National Law University, has established
itself as a pioneer of legal education in the country.
The University and its dedicated set of faculty members have worked hard to instil in our
students the desire to excel.

Batch of 2017, the Twelfth batch to graduate from the University, is a group of dynamic and
motivated individuals, who with grace exude the spirit of the University and have upheld its
traditions of excellence. These students have been instrumental in furthering the reputation of
the University, flourishing in an atmosphere of constructive learning and discussion. Our college
has been conferred the prestigious Upcoming National Law University Award in the National
Legal Summit and Awards, 2015.

MESSAGE
I am pleased to present to you the Class of 2017, students of Hidayatullah National Law
University, who are the future lawyers of our country being groomed in the state of Chhattisgarh.

I believe that a strong legal system is the base on which the pillars of a progressive society are
built, so it is imperative that quality legal education be imparted to aspiring law students so
that they can carry forward the torch of justice and contribute to the growth of our nation on
a global platform. For this very purpose, Hidayatullah National Law University has been set up.
I have been associated with Hidayatullah National Law University for a long time.
The Institution has produced a number of fine lawyers and furthered our dream of building
a credible Chhattisgarh. Students from Hidayatullah National Law University appointed at
Mantralaya and have thereby contributed immensely in the development of Chhattisgarh. It
is due to the abounding enthusiasm to work hard, aided with the support of the Government
that the students have been able to participate in the national and international have actively
participated in Moot Court Competitions, Conferences, Seminars.

About HNLU
Hidayatullah National Law University is one of the leading Nationals Law Schools of India. It was
established by the Government of Chhattisgarh under the Hidayatullah National University of
Law, Chhattisgarh Act (Act No.10 of 2003) in 2003.

The University had been an initiative to uplift the quality of legal education in the newly formed
State of Chhattisgarh. Today it is a center of excellence in legal education and research, upholding
its motto Dharma Sansthapanartham or the establishment of the primacy of Laws.
The University is named after Hon. Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah, former Chief Justice of
India, Vice-President of India and Acting President of India, who was not only an outstanding
jurist but also an exceptional human being. The University has inculcated in it the values of
Justice Hidayatullah, values of leadership, excellence and integrity.

Honble Mr. Justice H. L. Dattu, Chief Justice of India, is the Visitor to the University. Honble Mr.
Justice Navin Sinha, Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, is the Chancellor of
the University, and Prof. (Dr.) Sukh Pal Singh is the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Students are selected to the University on the basis of the Common Law Admission Test, which
is the common admission test for all National Law Schools in India.

HNLU has produced some of the finest Law graduates in the country who have gone on to join
Legal Practice independently at High Courts and Supreme Court and at Law firms as Associates.
Our graduates have gone further to join the Academia, having completed further studies from
premier Universities such as the Harvard Law School and Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
Students have also joined the service of the nation as officers in the Union Public Services and
in State Judiciaries, and also as officers of the elite JAG Branch of the Indian Armed Forces.
About BATCH 2017
The Batch of 2017 comprises a vibrant medley of bright minds from across the country. As a
group of students hailing from different parts of the country this batch represents, at its core,
the very essence of the youth of this country diverse yet unprejudiced, holding different views
and opinions and yet indulging in rational discourse on the same to create an atmosphere of
sound learning.

The students of this batch are an asset to this institution, participating in and organizing several
debating, sporting, quizzing and events within the university around the year through extensive
planning and coordination. Many members of this batch have been instrumental in setting the
wheels of our Samanvay programme for teaching underprivileged children of the neighbouring
villages in motion and have been an active part of the organizing committees for a number
of events in the university such as the Hidayatullah National Moot Court Competition and
Colossus the cultural and sports fest of HNLU.

The Batch of 2017 has witnessed substantial development over the years by means of the
exposure gained by its students by means of their participation in different international
conferences and moot court competitions. We are confident that you would appreciate
associating your organisation with the Class of 2017.

INFRASTRUCTURE
HNLU boasts of world class infrastructure in terms of both academic and allied infrastructure.
Some of the facilities that the University provides its students include:

Library | The Library is state of the art with specific sections dedicated to International Law,
International Arbitration, Trade Law, Environmental Law etc. The Library boasts of complete
collections of the All England Law Reporters, The Corpus Juris, and Commercial Law Reports etc.
One of the special features of the Library is the Hidayatullah collection, which is a collection of
books donated from the personal collection of Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah. The University
has access to all requisite academic databases including HeinOnline, JSTOR and WestLaw.

Moot Court Halls | HNLU has a unique curriculum which includes mandatory Moot Court
exercises. The University has 6 Moot Court halls which are used by students for Benchmark
Rounds, Intra-University Challengers, and can be seen in their complete glory during the Justice
Hidayatullah Memorial National Moot Court Competition.

Schools | One of the features of HNLU is its Six Schools as Centres of Excellence in the
respective fields and Six Units/Centres under each School with total of thirty six units. The six
schools are:
- The School of Juridical & Social Sciences (SJSS)
- The School of Constitutional & Administrative Governance (SCAG)
- The School of International Legal Studies (SILS)
- The School of Science, Technology & Sustainable Development (SSTSD)
- The School of Business & Global Trade Laws Development (SBGTLD)
- The School of Administration of Justice, Continuing & Clinical Legal Education (SAJCCLE)

Sports | HNLU provides indoor badminton courts and volleyball courts. Adequate facilities
are available for sporting activities and the Sports Committee, a student body, takes care of
the sporting requirements of the students of HNLU. Inter and Intra Semester matches are
conducted to bring out the talents from amongst the students. There are grounds and facilities
for Volley Ball, Cricket and Football.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum at HNLU travels seamlessly between traditional subjects like Tort Law and
modern courses like Cyber Law. Students of this Batch were broadly divided according to their
chosen Major (Economics, Political Sciences and Sociology). Students study their Major subjects
till the 6th Semester post which they are offered Honors Specializations (2 Subjects) and in their
4th and 5th Year they can study any 6 Optional Papers from a range of subjects including non-
conventional areas of Law such as WTO Law, Media Law, Women and Law etc.

Evaluation Criterion

Students are evaluated on a Ten-point Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) system.
Evaluation is based on a system of continuous evaluation which has included snap tests,
Mid-Term examinations, Semester examinations, Research Projects and viva-voce examinations/
class presentations conducted throughout the semester.

LIFE AT HNLU
The University named after the prominent judge and former Chief Justice of India, Justice
Mohammad Hidayatullah, is situated in Naya Raipur, 22 kms away from the capital city of Raipur,
Chhattisgarh.
Situated on a splendid 65 acre campus which overlooks a lake, the University offers a B.A.
LL.B. (Hons.) integrated Programme, an L.L.M. Programme, and Ph.D Course. The university is
recognized by The Bar Commission and receives central assistance from the University Grants
Commission. The academic building is based on the design of the Parliament of India and
consists of a well-equipped library, moot-court halls and IT section.

Some of the notable masts of the university as such:

The Student Bar Association is an important functional body at HNLU. Holding office for a
year, it comprises fourteen elected students who are the conveners of the committees of the
University.
The Association makes all decisions affecting the students as well as relevant activities both
academic and cultural and makes recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor. The university
also partakes with the International Law Students Association and has tried to forward the
study on International Law in HNLU through various initiatives such as the HNLU-ILSA Refugee
Conference

Co-curricular events are popular in the campus itself, with the activity of debating taking a lead.
The skill of argumentation is honed by participation in events like The Aruna-Hyde memorial
debate, the Lit& debating week, Freshers Debate and The Indian Quiz and Debating League.
Sports events like Dunk- yard, HPL and the Sudeep Memorial Cricket Tournament are all the
rage.

Colossus: HNLUs Annual Sports & Cultural Fest is the chief sports fest of HNLU which is
organized in the month of March again every even year. The Fest was first organized in 2013
and comprises 15 sports events and an equal number of cultural events. Sports events include
Football, Cricket, Tennis, Table-Tennis, Basketball, Throw-ball, Volleyball, Chess, etc. The cultural
events include a Dance contest, Singing Competitions, Fashion Show, Photography Competition,
Mad-ads etc.
Moot Court Competitions are essential to the lifestyle of a law student and the University has
been represented by its students at various imperative national and international competitions
such as the Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition at the Washington College
of Law, usan J. Ferrell Intercultural Human Rights Moot Court Competition, Manfred Lachs Space
Law Moot Competition, Sydney, Australia, William C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration
Moot.

Justice Hidayatullah Memorial National Moot Court Competition is the key Moot Court
Competition held every even year with Judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court officiating over
the finals of the Moot. It has been sponsored by giants such as the Competition Commission
of India & renowned Law firms such as Khaitan & Co., J. Sagar & Associates & Sai Krishna &
Associates. The 7th edition of the Competition in 2014 saw the theme being changed from
Competition Law as originated with, to Environmental Law.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
The Campus Recruitment Process in the University will begin from the month of March, 2016.
Recruiters may contact the RCC for blocking any suitable dates in these two months or to
discuss possible dates in any other month.

All Recruiters must register with the RCC, providing the following information:

a) Mode of Recruitment (on-campus or through telephonic interview/ Video-conferencing)

b) Short-listing process.

c) Date of on-campus placement / date of telephonic interview /

d) Offer details: The RCC will assign a Coordinator post registration, who will coordinate with the
prospective Recruiter. It is advisable for the Recruiters to conduct a Pre-Placement Talk before
the commencement of the Placement process. To protect employer interests, no student, who
has got a placement offer from an on-campus recruiter, will be allowed to sit for further campus
placements. The RCC does not endorse any individual efforts for recruitment. However it will
facilitate PPOs for students who have previously interned at any particular organization.
Travel and stay
The University Campus lies in close vicinity of Swami Vivekananda Airport and Raipur Railway
Station. The distance from the airport and railway station are 16 km (about 30 minutes) and
30 km (about 45 minutes) respectively. Indigo has daily flights to Raipur from all major metros
including, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Details are available on request. The University would
be pleased to provide accommodation to the Recruiters at its Guest House on the campus.
