Assignment:

1. What are the forms of communication?

Interpersonal communication can be described in a variety of ways, but when we
examine what it means in the context of management, we can define interpersonal
communication as communication between a small group of individuals, typically in a
face-to-face setting, where participants engage in a minimally restricted dialogue with
each other. nonverbal communication is anything besides words, such as gestures,
actions, facial expressions, body language and other aspects of your physical appearance,
that, when seen, communicate something. I am sure that you've heard the saying 'it is not
what you say, but how you say it' or perhaps 'actions speak louder than words.' Managers
send, receive and interpret nonverbal messages the same way they would oral or written
communication. Written communication refers to messages that are transmitted to
receivers in writing.

2. VERBAL COMMUNICATION
This type of communication is sometimes referred to as oral communication. This is
because it involves the use of words, sounds and speaking in order to pass the message
across to other parties. On the other hand this type of communication uses the word of
mouth in order to pass the message or information to the receiver. Language forms an
important aspect in oral communication. This is because the language that is used in
passing information must be well understood by the two parties who are involved in the
process.

3. VISUAL COMMUNICATION
This type of communication makes use of visual aids to pass the message/information
from the sender to the receiver. These visual aids that are used in communication may
include:-

a. Graphs can be used to give a relationship of various variables which if analyzed by the
receiver, it will make meaning.
b. Signs for example road signs help in passing information to road users hence
controlling traffic.
c. Drawings drawings are always used in passing specific information to specific people.
d. Colors different colors mean differently hence when used for instance red, conveys
feelings of passion or love.
4. Importance of listening
Listening is an active process by which we make sense of, assess, and respond to what we
hear. The listening process involves five stages: receiving, understanding, evaluating,
remembering, and responding. Active listening is a particular communication technique
that requires the listener to provide feedback on what he or she hears to the speaker.
Three main degrees of active listening are repeating, paraphrasing, and reflecting fully
engaged listening might involve listening to a lecture, taking notes, considering what's
being said, and asking questions.

5. What makes an effective message?

Gather the Information (only that which you need to reach your comm. objective).

a. Organize the Information (logically by subject, importance, chronology or space,

for example, and according to the audience analysis you have done)

b. Choose the proper channel (the form of communication such as written which
could be memo, letter, report, etc. or speaking, which could be meeting,
telephone call, presentation, etc.)
