Subject: Report on WENDY PETERSON

Dear Maam,

This document is submitted in partial fulfilment of the WAC course and contains my analysis
report on the case Wendy Peterson, as my official submission towards the individual
assignment component.

The report is structured as per the framework which was provided, and comprises my
analysis of the case and illustrates the various options to solve the problem statement defined.
It evaluates these options on various criteria and makes recommendations. In case you need
any further information related to the report, I will be happy to provide it
.EXECUTIVESUMMARY
Wendy Peterson was vice president of sales department of Plano ,Texas, sale team of
AccountBack company . Her subordinate Fred (Xing)Wu asked her about an assistant else he
threatened to leave the company .She has to consider all options available according to her
preferences and choose the best one .As the differences between them is due to their nature, it
would recommended that she should provide him an assistant .
SITUATION ANALYSIS

Wendy Peterson ,vice president of sales for the Plano, Texas, sales team of
Accountback company wanted to penetrate the close knit Chinese
business community, she hired salesman , Fred (xing)Wu who knew C-
suite Chinese executives at both established and start-up businesses. He
was a dedicated student and used to help his team members when they
needed .But the way he worked was very different than Peterson expected
.Peterson felt a tight knit team would achieve better results so she used to
promote collegiality and collaboration. Her office was not conductive to
privacy but Wu liked privacy She wanted to up to date on sales activity via
the new sale tool though which sales persons entered relevant data so
that she could assess at any time. Wu rarely performed this task. He did
not regularly attend meetings and spend very few time in office and told
that his schedule was booked with face to face meetings luncheons and
afternoon networking events .He did not take part in companys
sponsored events and social gatherings. He brought a single largest
client but provided additional software services without informing
Peterson which was against the companys policy. Moreover Wu requested
for a personal assistant or otherwise he would leave the company. In the
company only a few senior salesmen had personal assistant which gave
her to choose between cave to Wus demands or terminate him.

PROBLEM:
Peterson has to make decision whether to supply Fred Wu with an assistant or lose him to a
competitor

OPTIONS:

1. Supply Wu with an assistant

2. Reject his demand and terminate him
3. CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION
1 Strengths of Wu
2 Weaknesses of Wu
3 Benefits of retaining him
4 Risk of terminating him
5 Effect on rest of office
EVALUATION OF OPTIONS

1 Provide Wu an assistant : She was agreed to company to increase revenues of her

underperforming office by 40% .If she terminate Wu then company may lost largest
client he brought and it would make huge loss to company. Company also lost big
clients which he would bring in near future and it will difficult to achieve target
Though only senior salesmen had an assistant if she provide assistant to Wu with
other three four salesmen ,other subordinates also encourage to bring big clients .As
she would agree with his demand , it would help to improve their relationship and
she could understand his nature. Also Wu was curious and eager to learn his work and
had helping nature .It would benefit to company.
2 Reject Wus demand and search for other suitable salesman: Wu did not followed
office rules and regulation also he did not want to become part of team .Office
environment was collegiate and collaborative But he liked to work alone and wanted
too much privacy. His lack of communication to peer and his superiors was a problem
If Peterson provided him an assistant then other subordinates also demanded such
wrong things.

RECOMMENDATIONS

On the basis of the options available and preferences she had I would like to recommended
that Peterson should provide Wu an assistant with other three four salesmen . The conflict
between them was due to their nature. Wus corporate culture involves more face to face
interaction such as meetings ,lunches and dinner to earn the respect of clients . .

ACTION PLAN

The action plan would be to provide an assistant to Wu.As Peteron fulfilled his demand, it
helped to improve their mutual understanding and it would help to company to achieve the
sale target.

CONTINGENCY PLAN

In case the action plan did not work out, she could search new salesman who was familiar
with Chinese business community environment .As it there were many competitors ,suitable
salesman would get . As Wus demand was not fulfilled Companys environment would not
affected.

RECOMMENDATION
We think Haider should continue with Tanveer as the chief accounting officer for the time
being as it would ensure the best possible performance in the upcoming mega project and
would also salvage the image of SAS in eyes of the localites. The partners can be pacified
with the argument that the internal committee is proceeding with its unbiased investigation
and that Tanveer has had a clean background as of now. He is a critical resource and is
innocent until proven guilty. Persecuting him on the basis of just circumstantial evidence
would not do justice.

ACTION PLAN
In order to implement this recommendation:

Retain Tanveer Shah as the Chief Accounting Officer.

Keep an eye on him by hiring a junior accountant who would work under Tanveer
Shah and will also get trained in due course of time as Tanveer Shah worked under
Ahmed Shah.
Expedite the process of internal investigation by our committee to find out the real
culprit.

CONTINGENCY PLAN
In case if above plan fails then we could search for an experienced accountant currently
working in one of our competitors firm. He could be provided with a lucrative offer and
could continue the work. A bond should be signed with reference to the terms of work with
him and all high valued cheques should be passed on to the senior management before
approval.
