Mon 05 31st Conference of the The Conference of Heads of Government (CHoG), which consists of the Heads of
CARICOM Heads of Government of the Member States, is the supreme Organ of the Community that
Government determines and provides policy direction for CARICOM. Strengthening regional
5 – 7 July 2010 integration, through implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and
Jamaica Economy (CSME), a priority item for CARICOM is expected to among the various
items on the agenda. Other items include the recovery process in Haiti and the
continued impacts of the global economic and financial crisis on the region’s
development prospects. UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon; IMF Managing
Director, Dominique Strauss-Kahn; and OAS Secretary-General, Jose Miguel Insulza
are expected to make an appearance at the meeting.
Due to the confidential nature of the CHoG meetings availability and circulation
of associated documentation restricted. Outcomes of these meetings are
disseminated through official channels and post meeting press conferences.

Wed 07 Workshop on Good The IICA Office in Trinidad and Tobago in collaboration with the Ministry of Food
Practices for Production Lands and Marine Affairs will host a sub-regional workshop in Trinidad
Participation in SPS on Good Practices for Participation in SPS Forums”. Topics for discussion include:
Forums (1) The agreement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS
7 – 8 July 2010 Agreement) and trade facilitation; (2) country agendas developed from the
Port of Spain, Trinidad application of the SPS performance, vision and strategy (PVS) tool in Trinidad and
Tobago, Guyana and Suriname; (3) establishment and functioning of Belize SPS
enquiry point and notification authority; (4) the codex alimentarius standard
setting process importance of the national codex committee and sub-
committees, among others.

Fri 09 2nd Meeting of the Team This initiative finds its legitimacy in the agreement by CHoG to establish a CSME.
of Consultants and the The Single Market is already established and work is proceeding to establish the
Advisory Group for the Single Economy. In CSME there is a need for a strategic plan to guide regional
preparation of the development – to give a sense of direction. The first part of the plan was the
Strategic Plan for preparation of the ‘Single Development Vision paper’ which was approved by
Regional Development CHoG July 2007. It contains two elements that form the basis of the work for
(SPRD) strategic plan moving forwards: the Mission Statement and Development Vision.
9 – 10 July 2010 There are three other elements contained which provides the basis for the work to
Port of Spain, Trinidad develop strategic plan - the four dimensions of the vision – economic; social;
environment and governance and the five drivers of economic development –
energy; manufacturing; agriculture-fisheries-forestry; sustainable tourism and agro-
tourism and emerging export services. The meeting is expected to review progress
in the preparation of the working documents of these 5 economic drivers.
