I am writing on behalf of Grace Kim, who is completing her student teaching through the
University of Arizona. Grace is an exceptional student who has dedicated herself to choral music through
various avenues available to her in Arizona. A Music Education major, Grace has been involved in
numerous music-related activities and demonstrative her initiative and sense of leadership by presenting
a non-required choral recital this past November, in which she conducted various pieces along with one
another undergraduate student.
For the past two years, Grace has participated as a student Conducting Associate in the Audivi
Vocem Conductors Choir Summer Institute: a seven-week choral program which promotes choral
leadership opportunities for excelling undergraduate conductors. Designed as a means of providing
undergraduate students with more podium experience prior to their student teaching, Audivi Vocem
Conductors Choir is an educational ensemble, bringing the talented voices of our community together to
support our young future music educators. As a student conductor, Grace lead our volunteer community
ensemble through rehearsals and performances in June 2015 and August 2016. She was fully invested,
and artistically present as she maneuvered through the challenges and joys of leading a volunteer
ensemble with a diverse age range. Grace has a sense of maturity beyond her years, and developed a
wide pallet of gestures quickly. Her growth as a conductor and as an educator was significant enough to
warrant noting from several members of the ensemble and from our Guest Clinicians.
Someone with this level of personal commitment to choral music and education would be a
benefit to any classroom and I strongly recommend considering Grace as a potential candidate for a
teaching position in Music Education. She is innovative, dedicated, intelligent and keenly focused on
providing a meaningful learning experience. She carries herself with a sense of professionalism and
dedication to her craft.
