Mrida

The municipality of Mrida is located at 38 degrees 54 minutes north latitude and 6 degrees 20
minutes west longitude, in the western central side of Spain. It has a surface area of 865.6 km2
and its climate is Mediterranean because the winters are moderate, with minimum temperature
almost never below 0 C and summers are hot with maximum temperatures that sometimes
exceeds 40 C. Additionally, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993, due to
its important historical and monumental ensemble.
According to the last population census (2014), Mrida had 58 985 inhabitants. Economically,
Mrida is a city of services, with an increasing importance in the industrial sector and an almost
extinguished primary sector.
As it is appreciated in the following map, Mrida is bound to north by the municipalities of
Aljucn and El Carrascalejo, the northwest by Esparragalejo, the northeast by Mirandilla, the
west by La Garrovilla, the southwest by Calamonte, the south by Torremeja, the southeast by
Don lvaro and Villagonzalo and the east by Trujillanos and San Pedro de Mrida.
