Abstract:
The plan below proposes a need for funding in order to train certified teachers on how to
utilize digital age tools to promote engagement and use it as a means of assessment strategies.
Specifically, the proposal displays a demonstrated need for certified teachers to be trained on
Kahoot, a game-based learning platform. The plan will train fifty-two middle school, certified
staff members on how to promote interactive learning, track student performance, and effectively
design formative assessments using Kahoot. These teachers will participate in a two day training
session to understand how to operate Kahoot and use it in their classroom.
Demonstrated need:
Although the majority of teachers within the school that we are focusing on understand
the importance of classroom engagement and assessment tools, these teachers struggle to utilize
digital age tools to promote engagement and provide a variety of assessment strategies. The
rationale behind this is that these teachers have not been presented with tools and tips to do so.
For this reason, it is imperative to provide teachers with as many professional development
opportunities to expose teachers to new technologies that may be beneficial in the classroom.
Thirty-eight of the fifty-two teachers implied that they have not been trained on new
technologies and how to use these technologies in the classroom. Additionally, the teachers
within the school being used were asked to rate their motivation to learn more about utilizing
new digital age technology for classroom engagement and assessment tools. From this survey, it
was concluded that 92% wanted to learn more and utilize such technologies within their
classroom while 8% stated that they had no desire or use for new technologies. Refer to the
appendix A to see the survey used to gather this data.
Goal 1: By August 1, 2016, implement the use of Kahoot, a game-based learning platform, for
all certified staff. Implementation will be facilitated through the use of detailed guidelines and
procedures. Use of the online system will allow teachers to effectively use formative assessment
to guide instruction.
Goal 2: By August 1, 2016, all certified staff will utilize Kahoot, a game-based learning platform,
to increase student engagement. All certified staff will implement Kahoot using the detailed
guidelines and procedures. Incorporating Kahoot into the classroom will allow teachers to
promote interactive learning and track student performance.
Goal 3: By August 1, 2016, all certified staff will have been trained on how to operate and
implement Kahoot in their classrooms. This includes how to assign activities and track student
progress.
Goal 4: By December 10, 2016, all certified staff will have any questions, problems or kinks
worked out and a reassessment will be given as to how the program is working.

Evaluation Plan
Every teacher was given a pre-test and posttest on Kahooting along with a survey rating
the effectiveness of the training. The pretest showed that 40% of the 52 teachers were competent
in using the basic programs on the Kahoots. The post test showed that 95% of the teachers were
competent in using the programs demonstrated during the training. As a whole the teachers
thought the training was very informative and allowed them to become familiar with the
program. The teachers liked that they had the opportunity to work through the program and
implement some of the needed steps in Kahoot. The teachers will have a follow-up meeting in
September and December to discuss any needed review or any problems the teachers are having
using Kahoots. These follow-up sessions will also allow teachers to discuss successes and failure
along with ideas on what they like or do not like while using Kahoots. The survey showed that
95 % of the teachers surveyed thought the training was effective and look forward implementing
Kahoots and to the follow- up sections. The other 5 % felt like the technology would not be
effectively used by them, and therefore the training was not beneficial.
Budget
Service Cost
Handouts $10.00
Budget Justification
Substitutes will account for the majority of the requested funding. To alleviate the
overload of teachers schedules the training will be conducted during school hours, rather than
before or after school. This was noted in one of our survey items, teachers prefer training during
school hours. The county pays substitutes seventy-seven dollars a day and we will have fifty-
two certified staff being trained. To avoid all certified teachers being out of the building on the
same days, the training will be held in two sessions. On the first two days, half of the fifty-two
teachers will be trained and on the other two days, the remaining half will be trained. Since the
training will take two days for each teacher, our total substitute cost will be $8,008.
The cost of the trainer will take up the other large chunk of our budget. We will be using
an educational trainer from outside the county office that charges $20 an hour. The total cost to
pay the trainer for both days and for both sessions will be $360.
We are budgeting $10 dollars for paper needed for various handouts that the trainer sent
to us electronically. These handouts can be used for as reference sheets for teachers after the
training is complete and as note taking sheets during the training. Handouts are located under
appendix B.
