Q: Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth?

A:Yes. Maam.

Q: Please state your name and other personal circumstances for the
record.

A: I am Williard Suarez, of legal age, married, and a forensic chemist for the
Crime Laboratory XI Regional Police Office, Lanang Davao City.

Q: How long have you been practicing your profession?

A: For almost Ten (15) years already.

Q: Where are you presently employed?

A: At Crime Laboratory located at J.P. Laurel Avenue, Lanang Davao City

Q: What position do you currently hold?

A: I am the Forensic Chemist in the Crime laboratory

Q: As a forensic chemist, what do you usually do?

A: We usually conduct paraffin test.

Q: Have you ever examined a man named Jason Dina Maputi?

A: Yes, I think it was around 9:30 am on July 5, 2016 when Spo1 Trillanes and
Spo2 Versoza brought him for paraffin test

Q: What is the purpose of the paraffin test?

A: to determine the presence of a gunpowder nitrate. It is for detection of

gunshot residue

Q: How do you conduct this test?

A; The test is done by applying warm melted paraffin wax on the hands of
the alleged shooter and causes the pores of the skin to open and exude the
particles of gunpowder residue. These particles are extracted by the
paraffin cast (made of paraffin wax and absorbent cotton) and will appear
as blue specks, when diphenylamine (DPA) reagent is added on the cast.
The specks are generally located on the area of the thumb and forefingers
Q: How about the time allotment for performing a paraffin cast?

A: 72 hours (3 days) from the time of the alleged shooting incident. After
the specific period, it will be impossible to extract the gunpowder nitrates

Q: What was your finding after conducting paraffin test to Jason

Dina Maputi?

A: Paraffin cast taken from both hands of the accused gave positive result to
the test for gunpowder nitrates.

Q: What does it mean if both hands of the accused contain

gunpowder nitrates?

A: That the accused is the one who fired the gun.

Q: Is there a possibility that the accused is not the one who fired the
gun?

A: Theres no possibility for the reason that the when a gun is fired, the
gunshot residue particles - small particles produced during the gunpowder
explosions - are emitted from the back of the weapon and the muzzle.
These particles fly onto the skin and clothing of the person holding the gun.
They contain elements that result from the propellant and primer
decomposing, as well as from the bullet (which normally contains a large
amount of lead), bullet coating or jacket, cartridge components, and
previous residues in the barrel. Such residue particles are present in both
hands of the accused.
