On-board diagnosis system (OBD) - operation C666.

---

Danger. All work to rectify a fault found by the OBD may only be carried out by authorised
personnel.
The OBD does not replace diagnosis with the STAR-Diagnosis diagnosis tool as certain
functionalities can only be checked by means of STAR-Diagnosis.
The OBD can only be used when the electrical system is switched on (the parking brake
must also be engaged on buses that were manufactured before approximately 05/2001).
OBD activation/operation

The OBD can be operated with three switches

(4, 5, 24) on the instrument panel.

SYSTEM
Start by pressing SYSTEM (switch 4, top):
The OBD is activated. The base screen for the
first electronic system is displayed in the lower
section of the display screen (A1).

Press SYSTEM again or repeatedly:

All other systems are selected in succession and
the base screen for each system is displayed.
If a fault is currently present in the selected
system it is displayed immediately in the base
screen (A2). The fault display panel is empty if a
fault is not currently present (A1).
Note: There may still be stored faults if the fault
display panel is empty.

INFO
Start by pressing INFO (switch 4, bottom):
The Mercedes-Benz code number MBS of the
associated control unit for the currently selected
system is displayed (B1). For buses that were
produced after approximately 11/2003, the
diagnosis version of the control unit is displayed
additionally underneath the system label.

Press INFO again or repeatedly:

- If there are not any stored or current faults the
test result MW is displayed (B4).
- If there are stored (B2) or current (B3) faults,
these are displayed first. The test result MW is
only displayed afterwards (B4).
- After all test results have been displayed the
binary values BW are displayed in succession
(B5).

Clear the malfunction memory

The fault memory can only be erased if

no component is currently activated in
the selected system. Example BS (brake
control system): The start lock must not
be activated. Therefore, the doors must
be closed and the start lock must be
released by the accelerator pedal.
The fault memory of the currently select
system can be erased by pressing RESET (24) M54.00-0838-01
switch together with Quit (5) switch. To carry
this out, the system must firstly be selected for
which the fault memory is to be erased, under
SYSTEM (switch 4, top).
Press and hold down RESET switch (24) with a
long, thin object (e.g. ball-point pen).
Also briefly press Quit switch (5) within
approximately 3 seconds. Erasure of the fault
memory is confirmed on the screen by the word
RESET (C1) being briefly displayed.
The phrase NO RESET (C2) is displayed on the
screen if it was not possible to erase the fault
memory.
