In this, the writer says that Tappan was all about anti-slavery and that it obstructed a

persons free will inherit by birth. I want to use this in my argument as well because it

is interesting so see the point of views of different people when this case was going on. I

feel like i would have to agree with what Tappan said because its true, every person

deserve equal rights and free will.

John Quincey Adams was the sixth president of the United States from 1825 to 1829.

During the Amistad Case of 1839, he served as a representative of the Amistad captives

petition for freedom before the Supreme Court. Adams explains that he will stand in

court and represent the unfortunate men and that he wants to bring justice to them. I

think that this will be good in my writing to go along with my side of the argument.

History.com is a website that covers information about all kinds of historical events.

They say that during the Amistad case, Martin Van Buren was favoring the extradition

of the africans to cuba however, many abolitionists and northern people fought for them

and won the an American trial. This was important piece of information because it

shows that there was a great divide between the people whom in essence wanted the

Africans to leave America and those who thought that they should be fairly tried. I think

it was important to know that the northern citizens didnt agree with their president and

had the liberty to fight for the unfairly taken slaves.

Senior Justice Joseph Story wrote and read the decision of the Supreme Court. The Court

ruled that the Africans on board the Amistad were free individuals. Kidnapped and

transported illegally, they had never been slaves.

Revolt." Revolt. N.p., n.d. Web. 06 Dec. 2016.

The writer of the website claims that the spanish government wanted the U.S. president to

make the slaves back to spain without a trial teu deserved. This is important to put in my

paper to show that Van Buren was being pressured and that might of affected his opinion

I find this useful to my writing because Joseph Cinque was an important part of the

Amistad story. He was the one who broke free and led the captives to freedom.

The district court judge realized at first that the Africans were captured and should have

been set free however, due to the treaty the United States had with Spain, a trial was set

in motion. This will be used to explain the circumstances surrounding the big issue

between Spain and the United States.

"The Argument of John Quincy Adams in the Amistad Case." The Argument of John Quincy

Adams in the Amistad Case. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 Dec. 2016.

John Quincy Adams stood before the supreme court and told them that they needed to

rethink what the meaning of true justice was because if they did they would see that the

Africans deserved their own rights and freedoms. I plan to use this to argue with the slave

being set free.

"History of the Federal Judiciary." History of the Federal Judiciary. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Dec.

According to this website, in order for the slave to travel back to their homes, they

needed to raise money. In doing so, the 35 men left standing were free. This is interesting

to put in the end of the paper to show what happened to the Africans after the case was

closed.
