A number of people present at a party in Kolkata, where a Class XII student

allegedly died of wounds inflicted by glass shards, had promptly deleted their
messaging and social media histories soon after the incident Saturday night,
investigators have found.

This came to fore as the Cyber Cell of the Kolkata Police scanned 20 cellphones
that it had seized Tuesday from around 15 people, including friends of the 17-year-
old victim, Aabesh Dasgupta, who were present at the apartment complex of author
Amit Chaudhuri in southern part of the city.

On Wednesday, three people were arrested for selling liquor to Aabesh and his
minor friends. Those arrested include Rajesh Saha and Soumya Jyoti Saha, owners
of a wine shop located at Rifle Road, close to the 6-Sunny Park residential
complex where Aabesh was found dead. The third person arrested is Sudhangshu
Dutta, the salesman at the wine shop.

Acting on source information, we have arrested the trio for selling liquor to
minors, said Vishal Garg, Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime).

The police are probing whether it was an accident, as the victims friends have
claimed, or murder, as his mother Rimjhim Dasgupta asserted.

My son was murdered. He was left to die by his friends. It cannot be an accident.
Its been four days, but nothing has progressed in the investigation. By arresting
these wine shop owners, my son will not get justice. The main accused are roaming
freely, they should be put behind the bars, Rimjhim Dasgupta said.

A senior officer associated with the case said that the messages exchanged before
and after the incident by those who were present at the party can throw up some
leads. The Cyber Cell is working to retrieve some deleted messages from different
platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Snapchat from the seized
cellphones. We are working with a special software to retrieve these deleted
messages. These posts will give us a clearer idea on what was going on during the
time of his death. Moreover, this will also allow us to check the veracity of the
statements of those who were present at the party, added the officer.

Meanwhile, police called the apartments security guards and veteran sports
journalist and commentator Kishore Bhimani, a member of the apartments
association, for questioning. This comes a day after seven friends of Aabesh, all
minors, Chaudhuri and his daughter were questioned. Police also visited a south
Kolkata club, where the minors had gathered to celebrate the birthday of
Chaudhuris daughter on Saturday. CCTV footage of the club has been seized for
further investigation, another officer confirmed.

Guests at the birthday party, all teenagers, had gathered at the club before going to
the authors apartment complex in Ballygunge where Aabesh died of wounds
inflicted by glass shards.

It appears that the children wanted to throw the party at the authors house, but the
family had explained that they were in mourning. Instead, it was suggested that
they (Chaudhuris daughter and others) go out and get something to eat. But there
was some confusion and they couldnt go to the club, which they had initially
wanted to go to. Instead they went to Princeton Club, added an officer.

THREE DAYS after a Class XII student in Kolkata was found bleeding, and later
died, at the apartment complex of author Amit Chaudhuri, investigators have not
completely ruled out the possibility of animosity between friends over a girl, and
which might have led to the incident.

The police are also probing whether it was an accident, as the victims friends have
claimed, or a murder, as his mother asserted.

Specifying that they are yet to come to any conclusion, an officer with knowledge
of the investigation said statements given by the victims friends about the
accident angle do not match up.
Aabesh Dasgupta (17), who was at the birthday party of Chaudhuris daughter,
allegedly uninvited, was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital on Saturday
evening.

Chaudhuri was questioned at the police headquarters at Lalbazaar on Tuesday.

Police maintained that Chaudhuri had reacted promptly after he was told that a
young boy lay bleeding downstairs, inside the premises of his apartment in south
Kolkatas Ballygunge, and had immediately rushed him to hospital. But by the
time he got there, the boy had already lost a lot of blood, an officer said.

We spoke to Chaudhuri about the guests who had come for the party. He told us
that his daughter didnt know the boy (Aabesh), and that he had come with another
friend, he said.

Officers said they have gone through Aabeshs last messages on social media
platform WhatsApp and phone conversations and found that tension was brewing
between him and a few friends over a girl in the days immediately preceding
Saturday. A senior officer said: We dont know whether this led to an argument
between them. At the time of the incident, six of them, including Aabesh, were
downstairs, but none of the friends could come up with a plausible reason why they
left (when Aabesh lay bleeding).

The police also said they have taken statements of security guards at the apartment
complex, and although none of them were present at the spot, they have confirmed
that voices were raised and there seemed to be an argument. The (victims) friends
have claimed that he was drinking a bottle of beer he had carried he fell
(accidentally), the bottle broke and stabbed him, the officer added.

A special investigation team has been formed to probe the case. Joint
Commissioner of Police Vishal Garg said, A team of forensic experts and doctors
(have) collected samples (from the spot). We have also interrogated all those
present at the party. We can come to a conclusion once we get the postmortem
report.
Aabeshs mother Rimjhim Dasgupta claimed her son was murdered, and those
present in the party know what actually happened that day. I think attempts are
being made to cover up the issue by introducing the accident angle, she said.

Kolkata: Four days after the mysterious death of a 17-year old

Aabesh Dasgupta reportedly during a birthday party of author
Author Amit Chaudhuri's daughter, the Kolkata police arrested
another liquor shop owner for allegedly selling liquor to teenagers.

The arrest was made after the shop owner was found guilty of
violating a law that forbids sale of liquor to anyone below 21 years
of age. It was learnt that victim along with his friends reportedly
bought liquor from the arrested shop owner.

Meanwhile, Dasgupta's autopsy report has also failed to prove

conclusively whether it was a murder or accident.

In July 23, death of Aabesh at 6 Sunny Park, a building in the

upscale Ballygunge area of Kolkata sent shockwaves across the
city.

The victim Aabesh Dasgputa was a student of class 12 at The

Cambridge School and had gone with his friends to surprise author
Amit Chaudhuri's daughter on her birthday.

What investigators have corroborated till now based on the

statements of the youngsters is that Aabesh was carrying the liquor
bottle under his left armpit and tripped on it.
The glass pieces then pierced through his axillary artillery, which led
to a cardiac arrest and multi organ failure.
