Huge Thank You to Mrs. Means!

Mrs. Means, one of our parents, who is a professional
artist, donated her time and talents to beautifying the
front of our campus! Mrs. Means graciously agreed to
take on this enormous task and painted the astounding
mural at no cost to the school! Thank you so much, its
truly beautiful. Make sure you stop by and see the
amazing artwork!
Did you know? In addition to the state-mandated Common CORE curriculum we provide the following services to students
who struggle with grade level standards in reading: America Read Tutors, Community Tutors and Mentors, Read by Grade
Three Reading Services, Parent and Grandparent Volunteers, and an Interventionist in grades 4 and 5. These programs provide
support to students who are struggling in reading. Did you know that your childs school provides enrichment lessons to
students in first and second grade who are performing above grade level? We encourage families to go online to the CCSD
website and the state website to review the State Curriculum and review what standards are expected to be mastered by
students in each grade level.

Parent Note: You can go online and check your childs Accelerated Reader (AR) points anytime. Please contact your childs
teacher if you need assistance with the classroom code. Each grade level has required points for students to earn which is
factored into their reading grade. Students take AR tests for points throughout the school day, during computer labs, and are
allowed to come into school early and access the computer lab to take AR tests. Parents please consistently check and refresh
your childs Infinite Campus app. At any time you can view your childs assignment and CORE grades. Our teachers
post grades weekly and all assignments graded are immediately uploaded. Our teachers are also required to send home
progress reports every twice a month.

Teacher Communication: Parents, our teachers use multiple forms of communication to our community to keep them
informed of events, assignments, and important notices about behavior and grades. All of our teachers utilize Class Dojo,
Infinite Campus, and have emails. Some have developed classroom webpages, send home daily/weekly note sheets, progress
reports, and of course, good old-fashioned phone calls. Please contact the school and your childs teacher to get linked up with
your childs class if youre not accessing Infinite Campus or Class Dojo.

Honor Club News: Our previous Honor Club Students (BETA Club) raised funds for four years to purchase a life-size chess
set and life-size connect four set for the playground! Its just arrived and will be coming to the playground soon! This years
students have been selling Valo-Grams to begin raising funds for more school items. The students work hard to provide
extras to our students at DMC. Thank you for supporting our Honor Club, where all funds raised from club activities go
directly back to the school.

District Changes: There seems to be new changes every time we turn around with the re-organization of CCSD. This is a new
venture for us just as it is for you. Next year, there are over 4 brand new schools opening in Clark County. It is an incredible
experience to open a new school both for a principal and a teacher. Some of our own teachers have been given this
opportunity and we are going to be experiencing a staffing change next year.

As stated at the PTA meeting last week, I WONT GUARANTEE parent requests for classroom teachers next year.
Parents can always put in a request for a specific teacher, HOWEVER, there is going to be staff shifting over the
summer and you WILL NOT BE GUARANTEED to get ANY of your choices you put in. I will NOT be meeting with
anyone appealing their class placement. We always take into consideration parent requests as long as the classes remain
balanced but parent requests do NOT drive student placement. Parents can make their requests beginning in April through
May. Class placement letters will be mailed home in July and even then, staffing changes can take place.
