Operator safety and classification

The loss of service continuity category in IEC 62271-200 and EN 62271-200 refers to the classification of the switchgear
functions in conjunction with the uninterruptible power supply during access to one of the switchgear compartments.
The above-mentioned stand-ards contain definitions of certain loss of service continuity categories of the switchgear during
access to a compartment. Such access may be necessary, e.g. in case of inspection or maintenance work, or for work in
general.
All gas-filled compartments of the switchgear GHA are inaccessible compartments in accordance with section 8.2.2 of
IEC/EN 62271-200. Access for the user is not provided and opening would destroy the integrity of the gas-filled compartments.
However, the GHA series requires the cable connection compartment to be accessible for cable tests and/or for cable
connection work.
The classification features of the above-mentioned air-insulated compartments of the GHA series comprise:

Types of compartments in view of accessibility Features

Opening does not require any tools - interlock only permits

The air-insulated cable connection compartments and connection compartments of the GHA switchgear feature loss of service
continuity category LSC2A-PM.
LSC2A means: In case of access to the air-insulated compartment of a switchgear panel, the busbars and other switchgear
panels may continue operating. As the GHA series is a technology featuring fixed devices, the high-voltage cable in the
outgoing feeder of the panel concerned must be de-energized and earthed. The busbars and other panels may remain
energized. The parti-tions of the air-insulated compartments of GHA are made of metal.
If unlocked cable compartment front covers are used simul-taneously with metal-enclosed cable end boxes, loss of service
continuity category LSC2B-PM applies.

Qualification of switchgear regarding hazards in

Features
case of internal arcs during normal operation
The internal arc classification IAC refers to the effect of internal excess
pressure on covers, doors, inspection glasses, vents etc.
Moreover, thermal effects of the internal arc on the enclosure or its root on
the enclosure and escaping hot gases and incandes-cent particles are
IAC classification
taken into consideration.
The successful IAC classification is to provide, in case of an internal arc, a
verified operator safety level approaching that of a switchgear under
normal operating conditions.

12 GHA EN
GHA Standards (contd.)

Internal faults causing internal arcs

The GHA switchgear has been designed for a very low prob-ability of
internal arcs during its entire service life.
IEC 62271-200 and EN 622721-200 point out that faults within an
enclosure, e.g. due to damage, extraordinary operating conditions or
operating errors, cannot be ruled out completely and may give rise to an
internal arc. For this reason, the switchgear must provide the operator with
a very good degree of protection. Operator safety is achieved, in
accordance with the switchgear standard, by reducing the hazard to a
tolerable level. In accordance with ISO / IEC Guideline 51, sect. 5 (Safety
concept), this hazard consists both of the probability of the occurrence and
of the severity of the damage.
With the GHA switchgear, all preventive measures in acc. with IEC
62271-200 and EN 62271-200 Table 2 Locations of defects, causes and
examples for measures reducing the probability of internal arcs - have
been implemented by design. This Table also lists explicitly the use of
gas-filled compartments as an example for preventive measures to reduce
the prob-ability of internal arcs.
To ensure maximum protection of persons in case of an internal arc, the
above-mentioned standard recommends further measures to limit the
external consequences. These measures, e.g. pressure relief devices and
all operations exclusively with the front closed, have been implemented
systematically in the GHA switchgear series.
Planning engineers and oper-ating companies alike can use, in accordance
with IEC 62271-200 and EN 62271-200, the Guideline for selection of
suitable switchgear as regards internal arcs:
In case of a negligible risk: metal-enclosed switchgear with internal arc
classification not required.
In this context, it is especially important that in the case of gas-insulated
switchgear, the risk of internal arc faults is extremely low by design.
If the risk is regarded as considerable: only metal-en- closed switchgear
with internal arc qualification IAC should be used.
In making this decision, planning engineers and operating companies
should apply the procedure for selection of suit-able switchgear in
accordance with ISO / IEC Guide 51, sect. 6. This procedure implies that
the operator must contribute to reducing the risk.

GHA EN 13
GHA Standards (contd.)

Internal arc classification

The internal arc classification IAC provides a verified level of operator
safety in the immedi-ate vicinity of the switchgear under normal operating
conditions: The internal arc classification is an option in accord-ance with
IEC 62271-200 and EN 62271-200. It refers to the effect of internal excess
pressure on covers, doors, inspection glasses, vents etc. Moreover, the
thermal effects of the internal arc and its root points on the enclosure and
escaping hot gases or incandescent particles are taken into account. The
GHA switchgear series is available in the design with internal arc
classification IAC. In the IAC design, it has been designed for accessi- bility
degree A, i.e. the place of installation of the GHA panels is an enclosed
electrical oper-ating area and only accessible to authorized staff.
The internal arc classification IAC for the GHA series refers to the following
sides of the switchgear enclosure:
the front side (operators side) and
Aufbau zur Strlichtbogenprfung mit Indikatoren the sides
Design for internal fault testing with indicators
optional for the reverse side of the switchgear.
The IAC qualification has been verified successfully for the GHA series
up to 40 kA, arc duration 1 second:
Qualification IAC AFL
Internal arc 40 kA 1s.
In case of accessibility from the rear, an internal arc classification with the
following additional facilities is avail-able for the rear side up to 40 kA, arc
duration 1 second:
Qualification IAC AFLR
Internal arc 40 kA 1s.

Regarding the successful internal arc classification IAC, the following

criteria have been complied with:

Criterion 1
Correctly secured doors and covers have not opened.

Criterion 2
Within the specified test dura-tion, the enclosure has not been torn open
and no parts have been hurled away.

Criterion 3
No holes have occurred either in the accessible sides (front control panel
and switchgear sides) or, in case of IAC FLR, on the reverse side.

Criterion 4
The vertical and horizontal indicators have not been set alight due to the
effect of the hot gas.

Criterion 5
The ground connection of the enclosure has remained effective.

14 GHA EN
GHA Standards (contd.)

Installation of switchgear units with IAC

qualification
IEC 62271-200 / EN 62721200 requests minimum admissible conditions
for installation of switchgear with IAC qualification.
The standard implies the following specifications for IAC qualification
testing:
Minimum clearance 600 (+ 100) mm from the panel top to the ceiling. An
additional test with smaller clearances to the ceiling is admissible as a
supplementary test to obtain information on the installation conditions.
The overall switchgear height of the series GHA with IAC qualification is
2400 mm (with low-voltage cabinet 800 mm) and 2780 mm (with low-
voltage cabinet 1200 mm).
The IAC qualification test has been performed successfully with a ceiling
height of 3.0 m or 3.4 m.
A pressure relief duct is avail-able on special request. The hot gases
escaping in the case of an internal arc are routed from all compartments
into this pressure relief duct. Gas is discharged
into the open air.
This pressure relief duct is always necessary in case of the requirement
IAC qualification AFLR, or compliance with the internal arc qualification at
the outside of the reverse side of the switchgear,
IAC qualification AFL or AFLR for 40 kA with a duration of 1 second
If a pressure relief duct is attached, the current-carrying capacity is e.g.
2450 A (instead of 2500 A).
The instructions and information regarding minimum room heights and wall
clearances for the GHA switchgear series are contained in this System
Con-figuration; compliance with these is mandatory for switchgear with IAC
qualification. These are the minimum admissible conditions in
accordance with the standard. Each installation condition which is not as
strict and / or provides for more space, in accordance with IEC 62271-200
EN 62271-200, is viewed as having been covered by the IAC qualification
test.

Technical description
All gas-filled compartments with pressure vessels are hermetically sealed
pressure systems. Each busbar compartment is segregated from the
circuit-breaker compartment metallically and as regards gas leakage. In
the case of double busbar panels, both busbar compartments are
segregated from each other and also segregated from the circuit-breaker
compartment metallically and as regards gas leakage. The upper busbar
compartment accommodates the busbar system and the three-position
switch, a busbar compartment with the busbar system and two-position
switch are located at the rear of the panel.
The lower termination of the gas-filled vacuum circuit-breaker compartment
is effected by a floor module accommodating the connection elements for
the cable end boxes, the toroidal-core current transformer and the flange
mounted vol- tage transformer in the out-going feeder. The toroidal-core
current transformers are mounted outside of the gas- filled compartment
between the circuit-breaker and the cable connection compartments on
single-pole and externally earthed bushings.
The connection elements for the cable connection can be designed as
system
outer cone-type in acc. with EN 50181 for terminal cross sections up to 630
mm2, up to incl. 36 kV.
inner cone-type 1 to 3 in acc. with EN 50181 and special terminal type
Connex size 4.
The metal-enclosed support structure of the central high-voltage section
has been designed as a cable connection compartment with front access. It
accommodates simultaneously the voltage transformers in the outgoing
feeder and cable-type transformers, if any. Control, monitoring and line
protection as well as the components of a switchgear control system, if any,
are installed in the metal-enclosed low-voltage cabinet mounted on top of
the basic module.
Adjacent panels are connected on the busbar end without requiring gas
handling for erection, installation and panel replacement via the innovative
B-link (busbar link) system.

Vacuum circuit-breaker
The three-pole vacuum circuit-breaker with its maintenance-free
maintenance vacuum interrupters is installed horizontally in the gas
compartment. The action of force on the movable switching contacts is
exclusively effected in the required switching direction. The vacuum
interrupter chambers and the metal bellows pertaining to them are
protected by their supporting structure against inadmissible distorsion and
the action of force. All 3 vacuum interrupters are actuated together via 1
shaft from the circuit-breaker drive.

20 GHA EN
GHA Product description (contd.)

Three-/two-position disconnector
The three-pole three-position disconnector has prepared the positions
Branch circuit ON-OFF and Prepared for earthing. It is used for
connecting to and disconnecting from the busbar system and for
establishing the isolating distance conditions for working safely in the
branch circuit. In the position Earthing ON, the three conductors are
short-circuited and the electrical connection to the earth potential is
established. The branch circuit earthing has been prepared. In this defined
position, the switched-off vacuum circuit-breaker is connected
automatically during actuation for Earthing switch ON via a mechanical
intertripping circuit (optional), thus short-circuiting and earthing the branch
circuit via the circuit-breakers making capacity.
Separate mechanical actuation devices and separate mechanical switch
position indicators for the operations
Branch circuit ON/OFF
Earthing ON/OFF
enable very clear actuation and safe operation.
With the double busbar panels GHA, an additional two-position disconnector
is used for connecting and disconnecting to the second busbar system and for
providing the isolating distance conditions for safe work in the branch circuit.
Each two-/three position disconnector is installed in its own gas
compartment, together with the appropriate busbar system.

Straightforward operation via functional intuitive

operator interface
The GHA is characterized especially by the following operating features:
Ergonomic operability
Logical operation
Logical function states
Good visual communication of the overall function and operating states
Optimum operator guidance
All operations can be per- formed optionally via a motor-operated
mechanism
The mechanical control panel is located at an optimum height for operation
and arranged in a recessed position on the switchgear front. Thus, the
operating area is clearly visible while no control elements protrude from the
switchgear front. The position of the individual elements has been selected
according to their function, i.e. according to their allocation to the corres-
ponding device functions. The elements which form part of a switching
device, such as position indicators, crank ports or mechanical pushbuttons,
are visually linked by a specific pattern and integrated in a mimic diagram.

Integral earthing of the branch circuit

Via a mechanical intertripping circuit of the vacuum circuit-breaker, coupled
to the function Earthing ON-OFF of the three-position disconnector, the
branch circuit is safely short-circuited and earthed.
After the defined position Earthing ON of the three-position switch has
been reached, the switched-off vacuum circuit-breaker is switched on
automatically mechanically and the out- going feeder short-circuited and
earthed.
Before the defined position Earthing ON of the three-position switch is
exited, the switched-on vacuum circuit-breaker is switched off
automatically mechanically and the outgoing feeder is de-earthed.
The GHA series does not require separate actuations, e.g. for the
operation Preparing earthing and Connecting vacuum circuit-breaker
Interrogating slide of the disconnectors for earthing, as well as the provision of any additional releases or locks.
In position Earthing I, opening the vacuum circuit-breaker is prevented
by mechanical and electrical means.
Examples: Double busbar

Drives and interlocking systems

The circuit-breaker is fitted with a spring mechanism with the operating
sequences for automatic reclosure.
The circuit-breaker drive and the two- to three-position disconnector drives
are protected mechanically so that the drive is not destroyed even in case
of operating errors, or faulty operation is prevented reliably. In the case of
double busbar switchgear GHA and for inter-panel interlocks, additional
electro-magnetical interlocks are used as mechanical lock-outs. The crank
for actu-ation of a drive for the function Disconnector ON-OFF or
Earthing switch ON-OFF can only be inserted, as a rule, if this is permitted
by the appropriate switch condition.
Otherwise, the drive is pro- tected by free wheeling or by torque limitation in
the crank.
The drives feature auxiliary equipment, e.g. auxiliary switches, magnetic
releases, motor drives, blocking coils, interlocking devices etc. The switch
positions are displayed mechanically in the control panel. The mechanical
switch position indicators as well as actuation of the drives are integrated in
a very clear mimic diagram in the control panel and directly visible at any
time.
Maintenance of the switching devices and the drives is absolutely
straightforward (see Operating Manual), taking the admissible mechanical
and electrical numbers of switching operations into account, and under
normal operating conditions for indoor switchgear in accordance with
IEC 62271-1.

Internal mechanical interlocks of the panel

With the circuit-breaker closed, the interrogation slide is locked for the
disconnector and the earthing switch.
The interrogation slide always releases one insertion opening only
(disconnector or earthing switch), or both of them are locked.
The crank for the disconnectors and earthing switches can only be
removed in its appropriate end position.
The earthing switch can only be actuated in direction ON with the
circuit-breakers spring mechanism charged (intertripping circuit of
circuit-breaker during earthing).
When the crank on the disconnector or earthing switch is still in place, or
when the interrogation slide is open, the following components are
locked:
ON pushbutton of circuit-breaker
ON pulse is interruptedC
In panels featuring two interrogation slides (e. g. double busbar panel,
bus section coupler and bus coupler), the following features are locked:
Both interrogation slides cannot be opened simul-taneously.
The interrogation slides are blocked depending on the position of the
disconnector or earthing switch (see interlock tables).

B-link - the innovative busbar connection system

The busbars of each GHA switchgear panel are largely installed in separate
gas-filled compartments as required by the system. Thus, they are
independent of external environmental influences and integrated into the
insulating gas monitoring.
To avoid all gas work on site, the connections of the busbars of adjacent
GHA panels are established via the innovative B-link system. Like the
gas- filled compartments, the robust B-link system does not require any
maintenance.
The potential-controlled, ex-ternally grounded and flexible connecting
B-link, connected sleeves of the B-link system distinguish themselves by extremely simple
assembly and minimum elec-trical field intensities in the field of the
high-quality electrical joints.
Busbar systems on the switchgear ends are closed with surge-proof
terminal sleeve kits.
The reliabiliy of the thermal and dynamic load-bearing capacity of the
current-carrying connections of the B-link system with 40 kA (3s) and a
peak current of 100 kA has been checked successfully. Further advantages
of the system are:
The design with minimized electrical field intensity on the high-quality
electrical joints reduces fault potential due to accidental contamination.
SF6 SF6
On-site assembly of the system is effected under visual supervision (you
B-link, connected can see what you are doing).
Straightforward and time- saving assembly on site reduces potential,
site-specific negative influences.
After removing B-link systems from between adjacent panels, an isolating
distance can be established by means of end panel components in the
busbar run without gas handling.

Clearly arranged gas compartment technology

Each gas-filled compartment is autonomous. It is monitored by the gas
density information system IDIS. The gas status in the gas-filled
compartment is detected by means of a pressure sensor whose electrical
signals are retransmitted to the separate IDIS display. The gas status is
monitored on the panel front below the control panel on a panel display,
and separately for each gas compartment by LEDs in the following colours:
green (OK)
yellow (pre-warning level),
red (main warning level).

IDIS display Display of gas status

If at least one warning level reacts, this message can be signalled remotely
as a common gas warning group signal for the entire switchgear.
Each gas-filled compartment has its own pressure relief device. In case of
excess pressure, the pressure is discharged towards the rear part of the
switchgear. An additional switchgear pressure relief duct is optionally
available.

GHA Product description (contd.)

Maintenance-free gas compartments

All high-voltage components are installed in gas-filled compartments and thus independent of external environmental
influences. The GHA gas tanks are made of chromium-nickel-steel. They do not require any maintenance during the
switchgears anticipated service life. The gas-filled compartments of the type-tested and metal-enclosed circuit-breaker
switchgear systems are sealed pressure systems in accord-ance with lEC 62271-1. This means that they are leakage-proof
over their entire service life, so that neither mainten-ance work is required on these gas compartments nor replenishing of gas
during the entire service life of the switchgear.

No gas work on site

With GHA, no gas handling on site is required for erection, extension and dismantling at the end of the service life. All gas-filled
compartments are delivered to the site of installation with the rated filling pressure. All gas-filled compartments are completely
tested for leakage-proofness in the factory. If necessary, replacement of panels from the switchgear assembly is possible
without gas handling and without interfering with the gas-filled compartments of the adjacent panels.
This work is performed without moving the adjacent panels.

Low-voltage cabinet
The spacious low-voltage cabinet is arranged on top of the GHA
switchgear. As an autonomous module, it is fully shrouded and metal-
encapsulated, thus segregated from the high-voltage section and from the
drive unit. The height of the low-voltage cabinet is 800 mm (panel height
2400 mm). For very ample equipment, a 1200 mm high switch cabinet is
optionally available (panel height 2780 mm). The devices for digital and
analog displays and for operation are installed into the robust door of the
low-voltage cabinet. This includes the master relays, combination devices
for line protection, control and monitoring, instruments, electrical actuating
elements and switches as well as multimeters. The preferred installation
height for devices for operation and adjustment is in the very easily
accessible area between 1660 mm and 2000 mm, measured from the
panel base. A specific cable laying system ensures optimum utilization of
the inner arrangement of the low-vol-tage cabinet. In the top part, it
features openings with rubber sleeves in the side plates and the
appropriate terminal strips for the overreaching switchgear-specific ring
circuits between adjacent panels.
The low-voltage cabinet is mounted onto the GHA panel during erection of
the switchgear at the manufacturers or on site. The preassembled
connection lines on the low-voltage end between the drive section and the
Low-voltage cabinet low-voltage cabinet are plugged. The external low-voltage lines are routed
upwards from the bottom of the front right-hand panel into the low-voltage
cabinet.

right-hand sides. A panel for the operating elements is supplied for each
switchgear. This panel can be mounted depending on the local conditions
on one of the switchgear end plates or
in the switchgear room.
It accommodates the cranks, the double-bit key and the handle for the
voltage transform disconnecting device as well as the switchgear

IMOS switchgear control system

To reduce operating costs in distribution systems, the Intelligent
Management und Operating System IMOS can be used optionally for
operation and control of medium-voltage switchgear.
IMOS functionalities have been tuned specifically to the requirements of
medium-voltage switchgear, including ancillary plants. The modular system
covers all the various information within the distribution network. Given the
logically designed operator interface, no special knowledge of control
systems or training are required of the operators.
The digital protection and measuring relays in the switchgear are
autonomous units and have been integrated serially or parallel into the
entire switchgear.
If a switchgear control system is used, all interlocking func-tions are
performed by microprocessors within the switchgear control system, so that

Voltage transformers
Single-pole metal-encapsulat-ed metallized voltage transformers are
directly flange-mount-ed to the GHA switchgear via an inner cone-type
plug-in system. The geometrically identical voltage transformers can be
utilized functionally
in the outgoing feeder block of a branch circuit, installed in the metal-
encapsulated cable connection compartment,
as busbar voltage transformers, flange-mounted on top of a single-busbar
panel (without additional module width), or as busbar voltage transformer
for both busbar systems of a double busbar switchgear with a panel width
of 600 mm.
All voltage transformers can be disconnected from high vol-tage via
upstream, switchgear-specific disconnecting devices. This disconnecting
device with the positions Transformer ON and Transformer earthed
must be actuated on the switchgear front in the cable connection
compartment and on the de-energized primary current circuit. Voltage
transformers on the busbar are actuated in the area of the control panel.
Voltage tests on the switchgear or on the connected cables can be
performed easily and safely without removal of the voltage transformers or
of switchgear components. In the earthed position, voltage transformers,
for example, can be replaced safely, as required, while the main circuit
remains operative. Voltage transformers with integrated high-voltage fuse
in the branch circuit: up to incl. 36 kV available on request.

GHA Environmentally compatible

Environmental aspects
The ecological advantages of SF6 insulated medium-voltage switchgear
within the electrical distribution network have been proved by the eco
balance study SF6 GIS technology in energy distribution - medium
voltage. The eco balance resulted in the following conclusions:
The eco balance study demonstrates, at switchgear level, advantages of
the SF6 insulated switchgear (GIS) versus air-insulated switchgear (AIS).
The switchgear as such however, contributes only to a very low extent to
the greenhouse effect. The design and load utilization of the energy
distribution networks - independently of the AIS or GIS technology -
contribute to a considerably higher degree.
The system consideration at network level is indispens-able to obtain
conclusive results. On the one hand, it confirms that the contribution of
the distribution systems to the greenhouse effect in Germany on the
whole is very low. On the other hand, current/heat losses are clearly
identified as the main influencing variables for the greenhouse effect.
Thus, the differences between the switchgear technologies are marginal
vis--vis the considerable current/heat losses from cables, overhead
lines and transformers.
Considering the switchgear level separately, a comparison between the
air-insulated (AIS) and the SF6-insulated (GIS) technology, however,
proves the advantages of the SF6-GIS technology regarding the primary
energy demand, the acidification protential (acid rain), the eutrophication
potential (overfertilization of water bodies) and the greenhouse potential
(GWP). It turned out that the decisive influencing variable for the
contribution to the greenhouse effect is the load ratios within the network
and in the switchgear as such. The current trend towards a higher load
utilization ratio of the networks enhances indeed the advantages of the
SF6-insulated switchgear. Thus, the load flow management in networks
appears suitable as a further optimization of the switchgear design in
view of the development of a noteworthy climate protection potential.
The results of this eco balance can be transferred on principle on other
European countries. A sensitivity analysis shows that the selection of the
primary energy carriers used for power generation being the most
important regional influencing variable has only minor effects on the
results.
Another important ecological aspect is the longevity of our products (min.
40 years), which is an extremely long service life compared to other capital
goods.
The GHA switchgear units have been designed, moreover, so as to require
little maintenance which would cost energy and material, and so as to
enable straightforward replacement of part components, e.g. if new
controllers or switchgear control components have been developed on the
market (upgrading). In our gas-insulated switchgear GHA, the high-voltage
components have been installed in hermetically sealed gas-filled
compartments, which are filled with the insulating inert gas (non-reactive
and non-toxic) sulphur hexafluoride (SF6). Thus, all external environmental
influences affecting the insulating level are kept away during the service
life. The particular characteristics of the insulating gas also enable the
overall size to be decreased by up to 50 % versus switchgear designed
without insulating gas with comparable technical properties. This saves a
Test area for speed measurement of the switch poles
lot of material and energy required for material production. The portion of
insulating gas used for GHA switchgear amounts to approx. 0.5 percent by
weight, referred to the weight of the entire panel. During fault-free
operation, the gas need not be replenished during the entire service life of
the switchgear. The switchgear is a hermetically sealed pressure system in
accordance with IEC 62271-1/EN 6227-1.

74 GHA EN
GHA Environmentally compatible
design (contd.)

The GHA switchgear satisfies to a very high degree the ecological

requirements in view of environmental protection thanks to
optimization of material and energy consumption during manufacture
no SF6 gas handling on site on erection, extension, disassembly or
replacement of panels of the switchgear assembly
compliance with todays ecological requirements during its service life
minimized SF6 leakage rate due to design of < 0.1 % per year
Use of recyclable materials for efficient disposal at the end of its service
life
Used SF6 is simply evacuated and recovered via integrated disposal
connector, and recycled (SF6 Re-Use).
Advantages of SF6-insulated medium-voltage switchgear have been
Leakage test SF6 control panel verified in the distribution system via the eco balance study.
Manufacturer certified in accordance with ISO 9001, 18001, 14001 and
EMAS II.
Our design directives regarding environmentally compatible design specify
the use of materials which are easily recyclable and can be disassembled.
The metals which make up approx. 90% of the switchgear are easily
recyclable. At the end of their service life, they are recycled 100% in the
form of homogenous materials. Plastics can also be recycled. The
thermosetting i.e. non-melt-ing plastics can be comminuted and reused
as fillers in other plastic components; the melting thermoplastic materials
can be recycled as homogenous materials. This means that the material is
conserved, melted down and used for the construction of new durable
parts.
To ensure efficient and environ-mentally compatible disassembly and
assignment of materials by the responsible recycling experts, the
switchgears plastic components have been identified accordingly.
More-over, material and utilization data sheets are available to provide the
customer with an overview of the materials used, and the recycling
company with important information regarding the recycling process. The
used SF6 is simply and safely recovered and recycled via integrated
disposal connectors which, in the case of the GHA series, are an integral
part of each gas-filled compartment (SF6 Re-use). No further special tools
or treatment processes are required for recovery apart from the usual SF6
handling equipment, meaning that SF6 recovery can be performed by each
company qualfied and equipped to this effect.

GHA EN 75
GHA Environmentally compatible
design (contd.)

The GHA materials are thus 100% re-usable. In case processing of the
used SF6 is required, the gas suppliers have developed an efficient
recycling concept. As a rule, the recovered SF6 can be re-used if it complies
with the IEC specification.
This represents a major contribution towards saving primary energy and
material resources. All materials were selected and developed so that e.g.
switchgear affected negatively in case of fires in buildings only prejudice
the fire load to a minimum extent (heat development, pollutants in the
emissions).

Versatile cable connectors

The metal-enclosed cable connection compartment is easily accessible on
the switchgear front, and suitable for a great variety of cable connection
techniques. For the GHA, the following cable connection systems can be
used at choice:
for outer cone-type bushings
Type C in acc. with EN 50181, up to incl. 36 kV.
This is the GHA standard version for branch circuit currents up to incl.
2500 A. The outer cone-type appliance couplers are designed with
reinforced conductor pin (standard in preparation) for a current-carrying
capacity of 1250 A. 2 bushings per conductor have been installed for
Outer cone-type bushings up to 36 kV, < 1250 A currents > 1250 A. The cable connection with cross sec-tions up to 630
(1 outer cone-type/conductor)
mm is established by means of cable Tee plugs. The connection height
from the panel bottom edge to the center of the appliance couplers
arranged centrally side by side amounts to 746 mm or 740/590 mm in
case of 2 outer cone-type couplers per conductor. The cable Tee plugs
can be mounted very easily from the panel front. Up to 3 cable T
connectors per conductor can be mounted within the panel profile.
System-compatible surge arresters can also be used. In case of models
with 2 outer cone-type couplers/conductor, it is important always to mount
an identical number of cable connectors and identical cable types and
cable cross sections on both coupler parts.
Cable testing is effected from the GHA switchgear front by means of the
test adapters mounted onto the cable Tee plugs.
Compliance with the specifications by the manufacturers of cable
connectors, Tee screw-type plugs, partially insulated terminal adapters
Outer cone-type bushings up to 36 kV, > 1250 A
and surge arresters is mandatory for selection and assembly. Regarding
(2 outer cone-type/conductor) the required current-carrying capacity over 630 A, the use of suitable Tee
screw-type plugs deserves special attention.
for inner-cone-type plug-in system
in accordance with EN 50181, up to 40.5 kV For the selected cable types
and cross sections, there are appropriate inner cone-type bushings
available for cable connector terminal types 1 to 3 and the modified
connector, terminal type Connex size 4, manufacturer: Pfisterer.
Up to four inner cone-type bushings per conductor can be installed in the
floor pan of the GHA switchgear, depending on the inner-cone connection
type. One bush-ing per phase is required for inner cone-type surge
arresters.

Bus terminals
In the outgoing feeder block, solids-insulated bus terminals can be
connected with poten-tially earthed round bars. Connection and
Inner cone-type bushings up to 40.5 kV - 2x size 2 (800 disassembly of the bars is effected without gas handling.

Safe cable testing

(For details, please refer to the Operating Manual)
The voltage test of all cables connected to the GHA switchgear can be
performed with-out any problems and safely from the switchgear operator
side with the busbar and the adjacent panels in energized condition. In the
switch position Outgoing feeder earthed, the cable compartment cover is
removed. The cable test adapters are mounted and the external cable test
equipment is connected. The cable test as such is performed with the
vacuum circuit-breaker in position OFF and the three-position disconnector
in position Earth ON. This special case can be configured by means of the
operating crank in the actuating port for the outgoing earthing switch. The
switch condition can be determined via the mechanical switch position
indicators with the combination:
Disconnecting function: OFF position
Earthing function: no end position indication + inserted actuating lever
cannot be removed + circuit-breaker in OFF position. Removal of the
cable test equipment and the establishment of the voltage-proof state of
the outgoing feeder after termi-nation of the testing work is performed
with the disconnector in earthed condition Earthing ON + circuit-breaker
ON.
With the voltage transformer disconnecting device mounted upstream on
the high-voltage side, the voltage test can be performed easily and safely in
the position Transformer earthed without disassembly of the voltage
transformers or of further switchgear components.

Transporting the switchgear unit

When transporting the switchgear unit, it must be ensured that the transport
units do not slip or tilt (if necessary, nail transport pallet down to the loading
surface). Re-use the original packaging to store parts which have been
un- packed for inspection.
Packaging of the switchgear
If packed for truck transport, the switchgear unit is deli-vered on a pallet
with PE protective film.
For sea-worthy transport, the units are packed in sealed aluminium film
with desiccant and in a closed case with tightly closed wooden base (also
for container transport).
In case of air transport, the switchgear unit is packaged in a wooden crate
with closed wooden base and with PE film as dust protection or in a
wooden case, also with closed wooden base.
Transport to the site of installation
Store under conditions admissible for switchgear operation. Avoid
condensation.
During transport to the site of installation (for details, refer to the Assembly
Instructions), it must be taken into account that the main weight is located in
the top area of the switch-gear top-heavy.
Transport using a forklift truck: Only transport the switchgear on a pallet.
Attention top-heavy!
Transport without pallet: The crane mounting harness must be hooked into
the jack rings of the switchgear.
