Give an example of an evidence-based nursing practice

I will be using the theory of Joyce Travelbee, the Human-to-Human
Relationship Model. She have defined nursing as an interpersonal process whereby
the professional nurse practicioner assists an individual, family, or community to
prevent or cope with the experience of illness and suffering and, if necessary, to
find meaning in this experiences. Since day one, we have been told that the most
important thing in our practice is the attitude. I think that it is one of the most
important things that a nurse must develop from the original encounter with the
patient until they develop rapport with each other. We should always put in mind
that the patient is not just someone who is ill but a human being who needs care
from us.

Give an example of from clinical practice that illustrates the following

ways of knowing:

Source of Knowledge Example

As we are still student nurses, our knowledge and skills
for certain interventions are limited so we rely on to
those who have more experience like the clinical
instructors, team leaders, or if it cant be helped, the
staff nurses. They have been in the nursing practice
longer than us so they have more knowledge and skills
Authority
that they could help us with. For example, when the
patient have a high blood pressure and although we
have already done independent nursing interventions
and it was still high, we are ought to report it to our CI
or team leader, then to the staff nurses and if needed,
to the physician so we could know what to do.
Use of knowledge from other fields or discipline to guide
nursing practice. As we all know, in handling patients,
the nurse must be dynamic and flexible, so for this we
can use knowledge from other fields like for example,
Borrowing
dealing with a patient who seems to be having trouble
in expressing herself, we can use the therapeutic
communication that we have learned in psychiatric
nursing.

As they all say, experience is the best teacher. Back

when we were still in the first level as nursing students,
we were practically clueless about some things. From
that point, I could say that we have all changed a lot.
Personal Experience
From the simple vital signs taking down to the more
complex nursing interventions, I think that we were able
to gain more and more knowledge and skills as we take
our duties in different areas in the hospital.
Things that have always done in a way that was not
questioned because it has been done that way since
everyone else could remember. I think this way of
getting knowledge was passed through generations. My
Tradition
example would be the simple home remedies that we
could also apply in the nursing practice. Sometimes, the
resources in the hospital setting would be limited so it
can be helpful in using alternatives.
