About humanities, research and society.

The way we understand our world is the way that we have living through the years.

Humanities show us the beauty of our history though many disciplines like arts, music, literature,

religion and languages. Some people wrongly think that humanities do not have a practical

application on society and other do not even know how humanities and its research can help us

to solve many problems in our society; this is the reason why, in my view, humanities are in

some way underrated.

Humanities can be described as the study of how people process and document the human

experiences (Standford Humanities Center, s.f.). Also, is important to clarify how the research on

humanities are applied and how to impact us in our daily life. In this paper, will be explained

how humanities through researching can help us to improve our society.

Firstly, according to the Professor Marcus du Sautoy, humanities can help us to look at

questions that we try to answer in a new way [] having a different perspective [sic].

Humanities help us to think more creatively and creatively and it also persuades us to ask

questions about our environment. Humanities can bring us a possible scenario of what the future

is going to be since it tries to understand the past (Standford Humanities Center, s.f.). I am
convinced that humanities can form integral people because its fundamental basis is to instruct

people with certain skills such as communication, problem-solving, sceptical thinking, etcetera.

Secondly, we barely see research applied humanities, actually, most of us do not know how a

research in this field is conducted. We could imagine researching as a laboratory team looking

for the cure of a disease in medicine; developing robots and new super materials in engineering

and that sort of things. However, research on humanities is very important even for the both

mentioned fields. In engineering, for example, some philosophers are helping to Silicon Valley

companies to develop a code of ethic for the interaction between robots and humans can be a

watershed in the design of new robots (Busl, 2015) and there many examples of how humanities

can get involved into the emergent technologies or, in other words, adapting to the new digital

era.

Thirdly, events like TORCH (The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities) are focused on

promoting humanities. They contribute to humanities and other areas through the exchanging of

information and debating; according to Professor Sautoy, humanities help to others areas of

mathematics and science to solve problems basing on the knowledge of the language. I believed

that this argument reinforces how humanities can easily adapt to the new age and benefit to our

society.

Finally, the understanding of the world is an enigmatic matter that has been concerning to

human since the creation and evolution of cultures. Despite all those comments which sustain

that humanities do not have a practical value, the thing is that we can improve our life with

humanities more than we may think and cooperating with the new technologies, humanities can

take an important value in this modern society

.
