Introduction
Time: 5 minutes

Ask the class if they like mystery/detective movies or TV shows. If yes,

ask a few of them which one is their favorite. Explain to the class that you
are going to play a murder mystery game and that it will focus on their
reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. This will be a test of their
comprehension and ability to use logic.

Lead In
Time: 5-10 minutes

Introduce new vocabulary. First ask the students if anybody knows the
meaning of each word and have students that know those words explain
them to the rest of the class. If nobody knows, or if a student has already
explained one and nobody else knows, use the words in sentences have the
students try to guess the meanings of the vocab words based on the context
of the rest of the sentence.

Note: Write words and definitions on the board.

Activity 1
Time: 5-10 minutes

Elicit Wh- question words from the class as review. Then ask the class
to come up with questions that someone doing an investigation might ask a
murder suspect. Have them try to come up with Wh- questions.

Activity 2
Time: 20-25 minutes

Murder mystery game. Read out the scenario on attached sheet, then
hand out character roles to the students. Give students a minute to read
over their roles and then have the class mingle and ask each other questions
using the questions brainstormed in Activity 1. For about 10-15 minutes, or
until finished, let the students summarize the information they receive from
their classmates on a separate handout. Then take back the character cards
and split the students into two equal groups. The students should then pool
their information together and discuss the evidence. Have them debate who
they think committed the murder and why they did it. At the end, have each
group present their findings before informing them of the correct answer.

Note: If students are struggling, try to ask them leading questions if you are
running short on time.

Wrap Up
Time: 5 minutes

Thank the class for coming and tell them lesson plans for Friday if
decided upon.
