1. History/background on the use of military drones.

The unmanned Air Vehicle or UAV started controversies in the one of the most
mysterious country in the world, Norway. The Unmanned flying object has five major drone
companies in Norway itself, and it distributes drones to other countries mainly United States of
America, Israel and United Kingdom. They are also popular for making the smallest and the
most popular drone today, the Black Hornet PRV that the US Army are now using for the combat
in Afghanistan. Norway has a very positive side on Military drones because the country Im
representing believes that it could help the Royal Norwegian Air Force, which is now using UAV.
The Police in Norway are also conducting several tests that help them educate themselves in
using drones. Since there are many companies that provide drones in Norway, the price of the
flying object reduces that could benefit the government. New weapons and tactics are being
used in the fight against terrorism. The use of combat drones in armed conflicts is in itself
considered lawful. However, as with other weapons, drones must be used in accordance with
humanitarian law and other international law. In particular, the use of combat drones across
borders raises questions related to fundamental rules for the use of force, human rights and
humanitarian law. Some of these questions will be even more pertinent if fully autonomous
weapon systems are developed and used in armed conflicts or other types of violence such as
terrorism. (Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2014-2015) As of Now, the NATO or the
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is in support with Norway. It even tested the first
underwater drones in the North Sea. Although the Government support it, there are still some
who are against it. Norges Fredslag (Norwegian Peace Association) is an organization who is
against of using military drones, calling it killer robots. They call themselves as peace
organization. They are currently having online campaigns and against the Military Drones.

2. Why do you, as a delegate of your state, agree/disagree with the convention?

It can help inform the other countries that what they are doing are for the beneficial of
more countries. My state believes that we can also encourage other countries that are afraid to
use drones to open their minds in terms of this situation. Although this convention may give us a
result either benefitting for us or not, There are still hopes that it could give us advantages that
now the states that are using it are now giving better results in terms of keeping their territories
safe. It could benefit us more financially by providing them drones for them to use, may it be
military, education or for just entertainment use. Norway is a country which strongly believes
that military drones can benefits other countries. By using this equipment, we also think that
drones UAV can help stop terrorism, because of the small camera of the flying object that could
capture several photographs, it is not that noticeable. It could also provide information and help
countries when it comes to war, which is today, not that, impossible to happen. The question
whether this convention may give boast to our country can be answered yes. It could boast our
popularity and our charm to other countries that also support UAV.
3. Is there a need for the convention (Convention on the use of Military Drones)?

There are many countries that are still not aware or not fully educated on this War
equipment. This convention could educate them more and could also enhance their knowledge in
terms of using the UAV. The convention can give the states something to think about, especially
those states that are strongly against using military drones. It could convince them to use drones
or either way, it could also prove their point to not use it. Military Drones can be benefitting for
many countries especially Norway who provides various countries of drones in a higher quality
and cheaper price. The convention can also give emphasis on how drones can help larger
countries on providing their territory much better security that could give them safer
environment. Especially Drones does not need more people in terms of using it. Military Drones
has different meaning in different countries. As a country that has a strong belief in providing
good quality in terms of security and advance warfare, Norway can benefit in this convention if
this convention proves that states will need military drones in the future.
