MWR102 Client Mode Configuration

1. Configuring your computer

Your computer needs to be set with a Static IP address. This means you need to manually set an
IP address on your computer.

A) To do this in Windows XP; Click on Start>Control Panel (set for Classic

View)>Network Connections, then right click Local Area Connection and click Properties. In
properties, scroll down the list and highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties.
Then select Use the Following IP Address. For the IP Address type in 192.168.100.10. Click
on the Subnet Mask box and it will fill in automatically with 255.255.255.0. That is all we need
to set in this page, click OK at the bottom and then click Close on the Properties window.

B) To do this in Windows Vista and Windows 7; Click on Start>Control

Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center. Then on the left side of Network
and Sharing Center click on Manage Network Connections (in Vista) or Change Adapter
Settings (in Windows 7). Then right click on Local Area Connection and click Properties. In
this window highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and click Properties. Then select Use the
Following IP Address. For the IP Address type in 192.168.100.10. Click on the Subnet Mask
box and it will fill in automatically with 255.255.255.0. That is all we need to set in this page,
click OK at the bottom and then click Close on the Properties window.

C) To do this on the Mac; Click on the Apple Icon in the top right corner. Select System
Preferences. Click on Network, then click on Ethernet. Click on the drop down box next to
Configure IPv4 and set it to Manually. For the IP Address type in 192.168.100.10. Click on
the Subnet Mask box and enter 255.255.255.0. Then click Apply.

Once your computer is set with a Static IP address, you should be able to open a browser and
access the MWR102s interface by typing 192.168.100.1 in the address bar.

D) After setting up the MWR102 you will want to set your computer back to the way it was. Go
through the steps again and for Windows, change the setting to Obtain an IP Address
Automatically and Obtain a DNS Server Address Automatically. On the Mac, change the
Configure IPv4 setting to Using DHCP.
2. Setting up the MWR102

First, flip the switch on the side of the MWR102 from Router mode to AP
mode.

A) Next, open a browser window and type in 192.168.100.1 and press Enter.

B) You will get the login page for the MWR102. The User Name will be admin and the
password will be 1234. Next click Log In.

C) On the left side of the screen we want to click on Wireless>Basic Settings.

D) In this section we will need to change the Wireless Mode from AP to Client, then click Apply
at the bottom of the page.
E) You will receive a message warning about using WPA/WPA2 mixed mode. This means that
the wireless router you are connecting with must be in strictly WPA, or WPA2 mode, not both.

F) Next you will want to click on Wireless>Site Survey.

G) In here you can click on the Site Survey button to bring up a list of the close by wireless
networks. Select the bubble to the right of your network and click Next at the bottom of the page.
H) On the next screen you will need to input the security settings of your wireless router.

I) Once you have input the values for your network security, click Connect. If successfully
connected you will get a message saying you were able to connect.
3. Completing Setup
At this point you can close your browser window and follow the instructions in section 1>D to
set your computer back to get an IP address automatically (DHCP). Once this is done you can
connect devices into the LAN and WAN ports of the MWR102 and they will get connected to
your main wireless router through the wireless bridge we have created.
