Please accept this proposal for your consideration.
Overview
The client for this Communication Design capstone is The Epicenter, a non-profit organization
located in Salinas, California that helps underprivileged youth reach their potential. Manuel
Arenivas, the Program Coordinator at The Epicenter, is the representative for this project. The
Epicenters current logo doesnt communicate effectively to an outsider of what the organization
is and stands for. In order to fix this, the designer, Tharen Usi, will create a new logo for The
Epicenter amongst other resources such as pamphlets and updated letterheads.
The audience ages that range from elementary school to college, regardless of race or economic
background. Some system design features that the designer, Tharen Usi, will create include
graphic identity and marketing materials such as a new logo, pamphlets and newsletters. Manuel
Arenivas will provide the photos and text and the designer will have the needed hardware and
softwares such as a laptop and Adobe. The final delivery date will be on May 12, 2017 and the
final deliverables will include digital files on a CD such as .ai, .psd, and .tiff files and a graphic

standards document.
Audience:
The audience for this project is the youth of all ages that range from elementary school to college
in Monterey County who may need The Epicenters resources. All ethnicities, economic levels,
and occupation backgrounds are welcome.
Features
The Epicenter Graphic Identity will include a colored and black and white new logo and print
materials such as a tri-fold brochure in color. An updated stationery for letters and mail will also
be included.
Resources
The client representative, Manuel Arenivas, will provide the designer with the desired text and
photographic images. On the other hand, the designer will provide the laptop and software such
as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. For testing and evaluation, three human subjects
of various ages and backgrounds from The Epicenter will be used.
Designer
The designer for this capstone is Tharen Usi, a Communication Design Senior at California State
University, Monterey Bay. Tharen has design skills in illustration, photography, and typography
and tech skills using software such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Schedule
The schedule for the project are as follows:
Fall 2016:
Research: September 23, 2016
Concept Development: September 9- September 15, 2016
Client Meetings: October 6, November 7, and December 5, 2016
Prototype Presentation: November 11, 2016
Signed Proposal: November 18, 2016
Spring 2017:
Client provides content: January 27, 2017

Design development: February to April 2017
Revisions: March to April 2017
Testing: April 7, 2017
Evaluation: April 28, 2017
Documentation: April 28, 2017
Deliverables: May 12, 2017
Budget
Phase I of the project, which is the research and planning, will take up to 3 hours. On the other
hand, Phase II, which are the design concepts, will take up to 2 hours total. Revisions will be an
additional 8 hours and Phase III, the production time, will take up to 35 hours. The testing portion
of the project will only take an hour to complete. Communication with the client and designer
will end up being approximately 5 hours. For the resources, the Adobe products will cost $50. In
total, the designer will be spending up to 53 hours on this project at a rate of $20 per hour. Based
on a comparable project designed by a professional, the total would have been around $3,000 if
paying a professional.
Based on the estimated hours and out-of pocket expenses, the estimated value of the product is
$1,060. The fee is waived due to the client participation in the CSUMB School of Computing
and Design Capstone Program.
Risk Assessment
Events that can affect the project include an underestimation of the scope of the project and
difficulty in receiving resources from the client such as receiving insufficient resources and/or the
client does not meet the agreed obligations. Other events that can affect the project include
technical difficulties or any family emergencies/illness on both ends of the parties.
Terms and Conditions

If the client does not meet the requirements for the collaboration (provide deliverables on time,
participate or communicate according to the schedule) the designer may discontinue the partnership.
The designer may compete the project without further client collaboration in order to complete the
project to graduate. The client will not have ownership nor receive any final products.

Rights Transferred
The designer transfers to the client the following exclusive rights of usage. Any usage rights not exclusively
transferred are reserved to the Designer. Usage beyond that granted to the Client herein shall require
payment of a mutually agreed-upon additional fee subject to all terms. Any transfer of right is conditional
upon receipt of full payment.

The client has read the conditions of this proposal and when signed. This document serves as a binding
contract. Additional additions or changes will be addressed in a memorandum of understanding or a
revised contract.
