Checking Up
Thoughtfully respond to the following checking up questions. Reference
the text whenever needed. Do not copy the text, respond only in your own
words.
1. Decreasing the wavelength makes it so that two points would get
closer together, this makes it so that each wave would be close
meaning that more waves can be created and will fit on the slinky.

2. THe tension of a string is directly related to the pitch because the tighter
the string the higher pitched it would be, this means that the lower the
tension the lower the pitch.

3. The tension relates to the wave speed because when you add more
tension to the string it makes it so that when force is applied to it, it causes
it have a greater wave seed.

4. L= n/2
What do you think now?
At the beginning of the section, you were asked the following:

How would you answer this question now?

THe tension of a string is directly related to the pitch because the tighter
the string the higher pitched it would be, this means that the lower the
tension the lower the pitch.

Essential Questions
Please respond to the following:
Why do you believe?
Explain how what you learned in this section about the string vibrations
illustrates the general relationships that link wavelength, wave frequency,
and wave speed.
I learned during this lab and from experience that wavelength and
frequency are dependent on each other. The frequency of the wavelength
depends on the frequency and vise versa.

Physics to Go
Respond to the following questions, show your work on all calculations.
1. By changing the tension of the string you are changing the frequency
of the waves. This is because the more force you have the smaller
the wavelength has to be.

2. Changing the length causes a change in tension. This means that the
same thing would happen. So a shorter string would have a higher pitch
and then a larger string would have a lower pitch.
3. You could do this by adding more mass to the string. More mass on the
string makes it so that the pitch goes lower, that is why on bass guitars they
sound the same as other guitars but have thicker strings.

4. In term of wavelength and frequency the string would go up to a much

higher pith much quicker than normal. This is because you are making a
rapid change to the string that makes it go higher.

6. Like I have said before, more mass means lower pitch. This is why the
lower string on a guitar have thicker strings and the higher ones have
thinner strings.
