Dear Seminaries and Institutes Hiring Managers,

I am applying to fill one of the spring-summer editing internship positions with Church
Publications. I have reviewed expectations for the General Publications Editing, New Era,
Liahona, Ensign, Seminaries and Institutes, Friend, and Web Content internships, and I
would love to be considered for each of these positions in that order of priority.

I am applying for these positions because I am passionate about communicating with

people through the written word. I am majoring in social science education and plan to
teach at the junior high level upon graduating. Additionally, I am minoring in editing and
plan to attend law school. Interning with Church Publications will give me the opportunity
to do something that I enjoy and that will enhance my editing and communication skillset.

I am specifically interested in working with the Seminaries and Institutes team because I
want to help youth and young adults find and utilize resources that can help them as they
face challenges and difficult questions. As a future educator of youth, I am excited about
the experiences I would gain as an intern with your team as I practice implementing
effective ways to communicate with youth.

I am highly qualified for an internship with your team because I have completed all
requirements for BYUs editing minor and have gained additional editing and writing
experience through my position as a research associate at the BYU Office of Compliance. I
have taken an Adobe InDesign class at the BYU library to supplement what I learned in my
intro to publishing class, and I am currently taking a public speaking class that will
enhance my effectiveness in planning discussions and coordination meetings.

I have gained additional editing experience, as well as problem solving, leadership, and
teaching experience, by serving as the editor in chief of the BYU Prelaw Review Journal. I
have further developed my communication and teaching skills by volunteering in schools
and by working as a substitute teacher in local school districts. I am confident I can offer
you the qualities you are seeking in an intern for each of the positions listed above, and I
am excited about other skills I would gain in these positions.

Thank you for your time! I am excited to learn more about these opportunities with Church
Publications. Please contact me at the information listed above or at 253-777-6154.

Sincerely,
Mariah Critchfield
