CERTIFICATE REFRESHER COURSE

ON
OLEO-CHEMICALS; BASIC CHEMISTRY, DERIVATIVES & APPLICATIONS
16th and 17th March 2017
Venue : K. V. Auditorium, ICT, Matunga

About the Workshop

The department of Oils, Oileochemicals and Surfactants technology, Institute of Chemical
Technology, Mumbai (formerly known as UDCT) has organized a two days Certificate Refresher
course on the subject Oleochemicals; basic chemistry, derivatives & applications, in association
with Oil Technologists Association of India (WZ), to provide an overview basics of Oils &
Oleochemistry, The oleochemistry is one of the most important and specialize branch of organic
chemistry as they find applications in all segments of industry such as soaps & surfactants,
personal and home care, paints and surface coatings, food, confectionary, pharmaceuticals,
lubricants, rubber etc. There is an emerging trend of replacing petrochemicals by oleochemicals.

The aim of this refresher course is to familiarize or reacquaint the participants with basic
chemistry & various reactions to make many useful derivatives. The course will be conducted by
very well known and top most academicians and industry experts.

We request the participants to register at the earliest ss limited seats are available..

About ICT and OIL Department

INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY: Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT),

which is now ranked as Number 2 among all universities in India by the National
Institutional Ranking. The only state funded deemed University in India, world renowned for
quality of education, research and connectivity with Industry and University Par Excellence.
Established on October 1, 1933 as the UDCT -University Department of Chemical Technology
of the University of Bombay (now Mumbai), with the noble intention of advancing India's
knowledge reserves in chemical science and technology, the Institute has grown to become a
premier (deemed) university devoted to education, training, research and industrial collaboration
in chemical engineering and chemical technology. The Institute's alumni have distinguished
themselves in all walks of life, be it in industry, academia, government or public service in India
as well as abroad. This is indeed unique in the history of any institute in India. Some of the rare
international honors have been bestowed upon them and some have been role models, serving
the nation. We have more than 16th PADMA Awards including PADMA VIBHUSHAN, PADMA
BHUSHAN and PADMA SHRI. Through the vision, ICT serve the profession and society and
strive to reach the summit as a team, and ultimately serve as role models to the younger
generation.

Department of oils, oleochemicals and surfactants technology

The division of oils, oleochemicals and surfactants enjoy the unique position amongst the Indian
Chemical Technology centers. The department is engaged in quality education, Training and
research in various field of oil technology in India and has catered to needs of oils,
oleochemicals, surfactants and specialty products and allied process industries in this country.
Our close interaction with industry helps in better-trained manpower and also realising needs of
industry. These needs are usually reflected in each research problem. The industry benefits
getting solution for problems while the faculty enriches in practical experiences, which is
ultimately passed on the students. We strongly believe that theory without practical
implementation is sterile and a proper balance has to be maintained between the theory and
practicality.

About OIL TECHNOLOGISTS ASSOCIATION OF INDIA and West Zone

The Oil Technologists Association of India (OTAI) established in 1940, is a pioneer

international association in the field of oils oleochemicals , surfactants and specialty products
and allied process industries, is continuously engaged in disseminating the latest relevant
information regarding scientific and technical development by way of organizing symposia
workshops, refresher courses, popular lectures etc. on current topic of common interests to its
members. The annual conventions of the Association are also held at different zonal headquarters
by turn. The Association functions through its five zone viz. Central, Northern, Eastern, Western
and Southern with their zonal headquarters Kanpur, New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and
Hyderabad respectively. The OTAI publishes a quarterly research journal (JOTI) beside
publishing newsletters, books, organizing International and National seminars, workshops etc.
for the benefits of members. At present the association is headed by Mr. Ashok Mahindru a well
know industrialist from surfactant industry.

The Oil Technologists Association of India Western Zone (OTAI-WZ) was established in 1960
under the leadership of late Prof. J.G. Kane. The OTAI-WZ which is largest among all zone has
played an active role in furthering the objectives of the Association since inception. The zone has
organized 20 refresher courses/workshops and 40 Seminars on National and International Scale
from 1968.
The OTAI-WZ owes its present eminent position to the inspiring leadership and guidance of the
distinguished personalities who served as its presidents, namely late Prof. J.G. Kane, late Dr. B.P.
Godrej, late Dr. C.B. Khanpara, late Dr. S.M. Patel, late Prof. Rebello, late Prof V.V.R.
