PROSENIC MARIA CODRUTA - EG - Aberdeen Airport

1. Statement of Problem

Aberdeen Airport opened in 1935, it is one of seven airports in the UK. Last year, 2.5 million
passengers used Aberdeen airport and most of the passengers are satisfied with the services of
airports. However, the airline Aberdeen has faced a number of inconvenience. Because the
runway is shorter than other major airports, many of the larger planes commonly used for holiday
flights do not use this airport. In addition the access routes to the airport are not suitable.
The purpose of this report is to analyse these problems, and suggest some practical solutions to
enable the Aberdeen Airport British Airports Authority (BAA plc.) to flourish again.

2. Analysis of Data

In order to raise the number of passengers using the airport, improve accessibility and combat
competition by airport development.

2.1 Infrastructure management

Aberdeen airport are 15 airlines to 30 destinations, this is a large number of flights, but it can be
improved and expanded. The problem is that the airport can not accommodate more flights
because the runway is too small. Many large planes that are used for vacations do not use this
airport because of this inconvenience. The lack of longer runways, makes the number of flights to
be smaller and stops the expansion and development of the airport.

2.2 Improve accessibility

People who have to get to the airport are not encouraged because not all buses are designed
specifically for airport travel. Passengers with large amounts of bulky luggage find access difficult.
Although the railway is near the airport, people still need to go by taxi because there is not a station
close. Aberdeen's economy is worsened because of poor accessibility to the airport, it blocks the
development and makes the number of people who want to fly from Aberdeen airport lower.

2.3 Combat competition

Due to several factors such as poor accessibility and infrastructure, people choose other airports to
get to the desired destination.
Because after 10PM are not allowed flights at the airport, many of the people who must return from
vacation are disturbed because delayed flights may be forced to land at Glasgow and Edinburgh
and passengers would then be transferred by bus to Aberdeen. This adds to the costs for holiday

companies, who may subsequently choose not to offer holidays from Aberdeen airport for this
reason. Passengers may not like the fact they have added inconvenience, especially if they are
returning from holiday and have to go to work the next day.
Passengers may choose a competitor to fly directly to their destination, to reduce costs and save
time.

3. Alternative Solutions

It is suggested that the managers of Aberdeen Airport consider the following solutions to address their
difficulties and help them solve the problems faced by the company.

3.1 Infrastructure management

For an airline company so big, it requires a long-term development strategy, in which to consider
the establishment of steps for infrastructure development. Because infrastructure requires great
cost and much time, it must be organized.

In addition, because the airport to grow, it needs organization and the establishment of a future
project for the realization of a new terminal with a new runway. It needs a longer runway to allow
larger planes to land because this is an inconvenience and eliminate potential passengers.

This development leads to the achievement of areas where at present there are no flights from
Aberdeen airport. This development leads to the achievement of areas where at present there are
no flights from Aberdeen airport. If they have a longer track might take over several companies that
fly to more destinations not only to provide connections to airports with direct flights. The more
popular areas that are covered by the company flights, even more the airport will be searched and
used by passengers from different areas.

3.2 Improve accessibility

Transport is an important point in the economic development of the city of Aberdeen, and also for
Aberdeen airport.

Have developed a regional development plan with local support because an improved airport
accessibility it will attract a noticeable improvement of urban planning. It takes a little effort for such
a great effect, all it need is a straight plan.

Specifically, it is needed several buses to facilitate transport to Aberdeen airport, using local
community and with support from the airport is not a very big effort.

3.3 Combat competition

Once construction of a new terminal with a corresponding a new track, it needs a time management
for organizing new flights, so they either land before 10PM hour.
Fighting competition in this case is all about own development to get on the same line of equality.

Immediate measures should be taken. It has to establish a business plan from the start, where
development wants to go. It should contact the city and the local community to take a series of
steps to be able to grow together.

4.2 Long-term
In the long term, the Aberdeen airport should invest time and money in expansion of a new terminal
and a new runways longer. It includes new extensions of shops selling newspapers, magazines and
shops of various famous own brands.
