The way how conformity occur in The outsiders novel
!
Some animals love to stay in the group even lion doesnt want to be alone, but

all of them are not in the same level of society.

Human are a social animal, They often stay in a group and create conformity,

which occur in society, mostly when in a big group of people that they follow each

other without the reason and if some of them are different then the society will judge

that they are separate from their group, the reason why they follow the big group is

they dont want to be dissimilar.

In The Outsiders novel, conformity involve in Greasers though, which were

revealed by pony boy. He though that Cherry valence and her friend is Social girl

rather than be Greaser girl because the way they were dressing, and personal style that

can classify the different between Greasers and Socials. According to (S.E. Hinton,

1967, p,19)I wouldn't have felt so embarrassed if they had been greasy girls--- I might

even have helped old Dallas. But those two girls weren't our kind. They were tuff-

looking girls--- dressed sharp and really good-looking. They looked about sixteen or

seventeen. One had short dark hair, and the other had long red hair. This kind of

though built by conformity in the Greaser society that always though that Socials are

a group of high class of society and have their own car, while Greasers are steal

things,and stay in the low class of society. The reason why he can notice the different
between him and those 2 girl is conformity. We can see that Greasers have their own

style, which no one have. So if they see another people who act or has a different style

with them, it easily to identify dissimilar among their group and strangers.

We can see that S.E. Hinton present how her characters dress and style that

makes them be different form each other. According to the part in The Outsiders (S.E.

Hinton, 1967, p.4)I only mean that most greasers do things like that, just like we wear

our hair long and dress in blue jeans and T-shirts, or leave our shirttails out and wear

leather jackets and tennis shoes or boots. This physical description shows how

Greasers were that are long hair,blue jeans, and T-shirts, those of Socials that has

different style from them compare with Pony Boy though that he think about how

Socials girl dress. This represent the conformity in the way how they were such as

Cherry valence who wear a dress and has a blond hair,especially her good-looking,

which is different form Pony boy who has long hair and wears blue jean. The different

character physical description of Greasers and Socials are classify by conformity of

appearance that occur in each society. For instance, Socials dress sharp no blue jeans.

whether the Greasers or Socials, they have they own standard to classify the different

between them and another society people so if has one person wear a vintage dress

they can notice that this person are Socials because he or she doesnt wear blue jeans,

and T-shirts.

The last reveals that The Outsider novel shows the conformance in the way how

the character say, which refer to another character, However it not saying in direct way

but it often say indirect way such as the way how the character said or word they were

use that can refer in deep meaning. The dialogue from a part of the Outsiders novel (S.E.

Hinton, 1967, p.48) "You know what a greaser is?" Bob asked. "White trash with long

hair." Bob speech refer to how the Greasers were that are in the lower class of society ,

uneducated, and harmful for Socials. The way how Bob said about Greasers is called

Prejudge. Its mean judge the external image of the person before they learn their kind.

Consider to Bobs dialogue that talk about how Greaser were. He thinks Greasers are

dirty and bad as trash, white as Caucasian but not the same as Socials. The motive why

Bob thinks like this is because in his Society always talk about Greaser in the bad way

and look down on them while some of Socials didnt look down to Greasers like another

does but due to surrounding, family, friend, and society that built his idea up to dislike

Greasers and always separate themselves out of Greaser who are not the same as them.

In addition, Not all of people like to follow each other but due to surrounding and

society that force them to adapt or change themselves to be the same as what most of

society was and to avoid the different between them and society that built up the tradition
trend, which classify the dissimilar between them and strangers. Eventually, No black and

white in society, it happen because human try to separate themselves out of others who

also be a human but not in the same stereotype with them
