SPECIAL ATTENTION:

Use of the International Alphabet IS A REQUIREMENT.

Quick Start Sequence for MathTalk

1. Follow exactly the Load Instructions in this packet.

2. In the MathTalk manual, NaturallySpeaking Tutorial tab, read page 1 and up to Getting
Started on page 2.

3. Study Trouble Shooting and Correction Techniques which are included in this
packet.

4. From the Desktop, bring up Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 +.

5. Look for the MathTalk icon on your Desktop. To start MathTalk, say "start plus the
name of the MathTalk shortcut that has been placed on your Desktop. For example, if it
is Mathtalk, you would say "start mathtalk". If it is shortcut to Mathtalk, you would
say start shortcut to mathtalk. If it is Mathtalk.exe, you would say start mathtalk
dot e x e. (You may choose to rename the shortcut to MathTalk such that you would
then say "start mathtalk".). As well, you have the option to click the icon to start
MathTalk. When you have started MathTalk, ScientificNotebook will be open, the
MathTalk voice commands will be accessible, and a MathTalk icon will be placed in the
bottom tray of the screen.

* To close MathTalk, click the MathTalk icon in the bottom tray and either say close
mathtalk or click the X in the top right corner of this dialog box.

* This does not close NaturallySpeaking; it closes MathTalk/ScientificNotebook.

6. Begin MathTalk training:


a) say train initial commands (Initial Training is included in this packet) to bring
up the Initial Command training document. Follow the instructions for training
the commands and afterward be sure to click the DragonBar then save user
files to save your training.

b) Next, train the International Alphabet by saying "train alphabet".

This training is recommended. Dragon REQUIRES use of the International Alphabet.

c) Optional. If you will be using the Greek alphabet, you may access optional
training of the Greek alphabet by saying "train greek".

d) Back to page 2 in the MathTalk, NaturallySpeaking Tutorial tab, proceed to the


Training Module for the level of math you wish.
For example: in manual To Train Say
MATHTALK FOR PRE-ALGEBRA page 2 pre-algebra training
MATHTALK FOR ALGEBRA page 5 train algebra
MATHTALK FOR TRIG page 9 train trig
MATHTALK FOR CALCULUS page 13 train calculus
MATHTALK FOR STATICTICS page 18 train statistics

*You may choose to do more than one Training Module.


These Modules are designed to quickly acquaint the user with:
a) Available commands,
b) Combinations of commands
c) Commands which are used throughout MathTalk.
It will also help you determine a dictation rhythm for voicing math!

Again, click the DragonBar and then save user files to save your training.

7. Next say new file and begin to use MathTalk to create your work!
