Compare and contrast the most important points and key details presented in two texts on the same
topic.
Compare and contrast the most important points and key details of Seeing Red and Life on the Ice by
creating a 3 column chart.
I will know the students have mastered the objective if they can find three similarities
and three differences between life in the Poles and Mars
Lesson Implementation
Time Teacher Pass out readings and 3 column chart
9:00 Explain to the students we are comparing and contrasting Life on the
Ice and Seeing Red using a three column chart
Teacher Ask the students if they know what comparing means and what
/Studen contrasting means
ts Ask the students what they now about the North and South Pole, then
have them give evidence from the text
Then I will have them look at the Small and Cold section of Seeing Red
and ask them if Mars is similar
I will explain that both Mars and the Poles are cold so that would go
under the middle section of the chart
Then I will direct them to the section Four Seasons and have them read
it
Once they are finished reading I will have them skim through Life on
the Ice to compare or contrast. I will direct them to pages 182 and 183
if they are having trouble.
They will do the same for the remaining sections and I will give them
the page number if they need it.
Ask the student if they have ever seen snow and have those students explain to the
others if they have not.
