On January 10, 2017 I practiced my second teaching practicum. I reached the school at
10: 30 and the class started at 11: 00. As planned I started the class from warm up activity. In
which I discussed the home work of the students assigned to them in the first class. After warm
up activity I gave my input. Since, I planned to teach informal letter writing, therefore I took
eight minutes to teach how to write an informal letter and I also discussed the differences
between formal and informal letter writing. As I believe in transformational teaching process that
is why, I took the students point of view about the particular topic. The students shared their
share their ideas. After the input from my side I made the students listen to an audio recording of
a letter written by one friend to another, on students demand I played the recording twice. Before
playing the recording I asked the students to listen carefully to identify either the letter is formal
or informal. After listening to the recording almost all the students raised their hands to answer
that either the letter is formal or an informal? And the randomly selected students answered that
it is an informal letter and they justified their answer with example from the recording. Followed
by the recording I provided them the hands outs of the recording to read carefully and to get the
idea, how an informal letter is written. After listening to the recording and reading the hand out I
Once the students are done with listening, reading and discussion I gave them white
sheets to write an informal letter to their friend. The students had ten minutes to write a letter to
their friend. I found the students very excited to write letter because they had ideas in their minds
because of the use of multi modes i.e. listening to audio recording, reading the hand outs,
discussion in pairs and input by teacher. After writing the letter they exchanged their letters for
pair review in which they were supposed to find out differences and similarities in their ideas and

writing skills. The students reviewed each others letters with great excitement and very carefully
to find out similarities and differences in the letters. After pair assessment I selected three
students by calling their role numbers to read the letter of their pair in front of the class. After
each letter I gave them feedback. At the end of the class home work was assigned to them.
Because of rapport building and interaction with student todays lesson (2nd lesson) was
more interactive as compare to first one. The students were more open to share their ideas and
ask questions. Todays session revealed to me that interaction and rapport building play a vital
role in human organization this becomes more crucial when it comes to teaching and learning
process. Time management was an issue in first lesson but in second lesson the issue was
resolved, each activity was done in allocated time. Although the lesson was nicely executed,
however, there were some things to look into to improve the upcoming lessons. Playing the audio
recording and giving the hands outs was a good idea because it helped the students to learn
proper pronunciation of the words and it served both kinds of students, those who are keen
listeners and those who are keen readers. However, it would have been better if the students
were given a formal letter and an informal letters to read and guess the nature of the letter to
make the difference between formal and informal letter clearer. Writing skill is a time demanding
skill which cannot be taught in one or two days. The students need individual attention to
develop their writing skills. If I got chance to teach the same lesson again I would spend more
days to teach free writing and informal letter writing and would give individual attention to the
students. The assigned home task in first teaching practicum was done by a few students, it was a
bothering point for me but in todays session I particularly emphasized on home task to be done.
Pair assessment was an interesting activity for the students however it would have been more
interesting and affective if I had designed rubrics for the students to assess their fellows work.

The discussion after reading the hand outs were done in pairs but it could be made more affective
by forming small groups of four or five students so that they could discuss more points in limited
time.
Overall the lesson was interesting, interactive and productive for the students. Almost all
the students wrote informal letter to their friends, some samples have been attached in appendix
(see appendix).
