labels: Results from the national nutrition health and examination survey.

BMC Pediatrics, 12(1). http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1471-2431-12-55

Summary: The article studies people to find out what their awareness level in the use

of food labels. It checks the effectiveness of nutrition programs in improving the

awareness about food labels and people using it for themselves. It also identifies

relationship between use of food labels and risk for overweight.

How it will help in my project: it will help me to check if nutrition programs can be

carried out to improve the reading habits of the food labels among Trine students. It

will also help me to research on existing habits of reading food labels.

Consumption Among College Students and Their Attitudes Toward Healthier

Fast-Food Options, 24(1). http://dx.doi.org/10.1096/fj.1530-6860

Summary: The article researched on inclination of college students towards fast

foods. The research used an online survey to collect data which resulted into 22%

response rate. A high percentage of college students agreed to consuming fast foods

and majority of them consumed frequently. Low cost of fast foods and good taste

were the reasons given by the college students for their inclination towards fast foods.

How it will help in my project: It will help me to analyze how Trine students fared

in comparison to other college students in their inclination towards fast foods. It

would also help me to draft better questionnaires for the survey and conduct the

research.

Summary: The research aims at finding the calories consumed and money spent by

college students in fast food restaurants. It indicates a relationship between money

spent on fast foods and calorific consumption of a college student. The research

indicates that college students might be contributing to high obesity rates.

How it will help in my project: It will help me to draft questionnaires for Trine

students. It will also help me to compare Trine students with the rest of the colleges

students. It will help my project in identifying if there is a correlation between money

spent on fast foods and calorific consumption by Trine students.

opportunities of nutrition education to the children and applications in improving the

quality of food in the college campus. It recommended colleges to place nutrition tips

besides vending machines.

How it will help in my project: It will help me to analyze the quality of food in the

Trine Universitys campus as perceived by the Trine students. It will also help me to

know if putting nutrition tips besides food counters would help Trine students to

choose healthier foods for themselves or not.

Summary: The research is aimed at finding linkage between obesity and fast foods.

The article examines the relationship between body weight and living or working near

fast food restaurants. The research found out that if the work place or home is near a

fast food restaurant, risk of obesity is higher.

How it will help in my project: It will help me to formulate a methodology on

identifying the relationship between obesity and distance from fast food restaurants.

With this research I, can verify if the Trine students also shows correlation between

obesity and distance from fast food restaurants.
