Assessment Process
Homework (35%) Homework assignments are posted on the Blackboard class site under the Homework
Assignments section. Although new assignments and their due dates are typically announced in class, it is the
students responsibility to keep up with new assignments and their due dates. Homework assignments are due the
following Monday by 12:00pm unless otherwise stated. Late homework will not be accepted. A missed homework
will be given a grade of zero. All submitted homework must include a cover sheet with your name on it. Start each
problem on a new page. Homework should be submitted in one pdf file per assignment. All additional files
including, data, MATLAB, Excel files, etc. should be zipped and submitted as a second file with your pdf
homework submission. Solutions must always have correct units! Solutions without correct units are penalized 25%
no exceptions! Because of the use of computers, carbon copies of homework will receive a zero. It is your
responsibility to completely delete any homework solutions that you have created on a lab or friend's machine when
you are finished. Cheating on a homework assignment will result in a score of zero on the assignment. Two offenses
will result in a grade of F in the class. Expect about ten homework assignments during the semester. Homework
will be assigned and submitted only via BLACKBOARD. Grades for quizzes will be part of the homework
assignments. There will be a quiz during the first lecture, but no grade is attached to it. Quizzes will be announced a
week in advance. Lectures and homework assignments are available for only two weeks. It is the students
responsibility to download them during that period.

Homework presentations shall include:

The original problem statement, given information, what is required, and a logical procedure leading to a
solution. Neatly drawn sketch with pertinent details such as dimensions, labels, and units, when appropriate.
Box, circle or highlight the answer or principle conclusion. You are expected to make comments on your
answers.

Mid-Term Exam (30%) (March 27th) The test is comprehensive in nature and will emphasize problem solving,
both verbally and mathematically. The test is typically comprised of short answer and work out questions. If you
miss the test, you will receive a zero unless you can demonstrate an emergency existed that you could not
circumvent and provide necessary documentation. Students who miss a test due to University business should notify
the instructor in advance. Alternate test dates will only be provided for excused absences. Tests are uniquely
composed for each term and are copyrighted material. Cheating in the midterm or Final will result in a grade of F
in the class. All matters pertaining to cheating will be reported to the office of student conduct.

Final (35%) Per the University Schedule.

Missing/Incorrect Grades It is the students responsibility to notify the instructor if there is a missing or incorrect
grade recorded on the Blackboard grade book within two weeks after grades are posted.
