It is no possible for me at this time to confront the lies and defamations which
could readily take the whole nation
for as long as political life has existed in germany, there has never been a mov
ement such as ours, created from nothing and embracing people of all regions, al
l classes, all professions, all heritages.

A magnificent era is now before us. germany is now awake. we have won power in g
ermany. now we must win over the german people.
i know that, within hundreds of thousands of you, who are now listening all over
of germany, some times the question forced itlself on you: how much longer do w
e have to endure?
i know my comrades, that it must have been difficult when you desired change whi
ch would never come, so again and again the appeal had to be made to continue th
e struggle, you must not act yourself, you must obey, you must give in, you must
submit to the overwhelming need to obey.
i would no like to thank you for not wavering, for not abandoning me during that
time. because all of this can only be credited to you, without you germany coul
d never have been saved. your courage and perseverance has today earned you the
right to consider yourselves as saviour of the people and fatherland.

that is the meaning of may day which shall be celebrated in germany from now on
and throughout the centuries so that all those who are active in the great machi
nery of our productive national work may join together and extend their hands to
one another once a year in the realization that nothing can be accomplished unl
ess everyone contributes their share of work and effort
german volk, remember what you are, remember your past and achievements of your
fathers and of your own generation. forget 14 years of disintegration and rise t
o the 2000 years of german history.
the german people are no longer a people of shame, of degradation, of weakness a
nd lack of faith. no lord, the german people are strong again in spirit, strong
in will, strong in determination, strong in bearing any sacrifice. lord, we hold
fast to thee, now bless our fight and our freedom and thus our german people an
d fatherland.

when i today speak to you along with millions of other workers, i do so with mor
e right as anyone else
i grew up out of yourselves, i once stood amongst you. during the 4 years of war
i was there with you, and now i speak to you, you who i belong to, you who i fe
el bonded to and you who i still today fight for.
and then through perseverance, through educating myself and i can say hunger i s
lowly brought myself up. but deep down i have always remained the same.
when i first came to power, germany had more than 6,200,000 unemployed workers a
nd now there are 3,710,000. that is in itself an amazing achievement for nine mo
nths.
perhaps some of you are unable to forgive me for erradicating the marxist party,
however my friends i also erradicated the rest of the parties, they are all gon
e.
i know many of you will say: you couldn't accomodate all the unemployed, too. bu
t i didn't say that from the very first. i said you have to give me 4 years time
. it's very easy to say: all wheels stand still, yet our arm wants to work. but
it's difficult to get the stagnant wheels going, once again.
it wasn't the intellectuals who gave me the courage to undertake this gigantic t
ask, but i can say i found the courage because i have only encountered two types
of people: the farmer and the german worker.
