1 About This Document

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of this document is to outline the procedure for upgrading and commissioning New
FSMF (factory default) to SBTS (software release SBTS16.2_1.0.2).

1.2 Documentation Board Members

Reviewer 1 Technology Lead Kapil Kumar

Reviewer 2 Technical Manager Navit Sethi
Approver 1 - Team Lead Santosh Sahu
Approver 2 Stream Head Ritesh Agrawal

2 General Information
2.1 Introduction

It involves sequence of tasks including software upgrade the factory default FSMF directly to SBTS
software and commissioning Single RAN base station (SBTS) with provided SCF file from planning team

General Definitions

SBTS Profile

An SBTS profile identifies a site hardware and cell configuration and must be selected during the
planning phase. The physical SBTS configuration (used hardware modules and cabling) must match with
the selected SBTS profile. The correct SBTS profile is selected by considering the current site needs (for
example number of RATs, number of RFMs) and future expansion plans

4 SBTS profiles are selected for Bharthi, ROB circle

LWG7_1
LWG40_2
LWG42_2
LWG42_3

These profiles with cabling details are explained in APPENDIX 5.1

SCF (site configuration file)

A file in the XML format, which contains site characteristics, for example site ID, IP addresses, and radio
network parameters related to each RAT.

2.2 Functional description

Single RAN network architecture

Nokia solution enables a fully flexible evolution to Single RAN. With re-farming, sharing,
modernization, and evolution, Single RAN enables operators to simplify their networks,
reduce costs, grow their business, and balance investments more efficiently.

Single RAN brings changes in the network, management, and operations structure. A
new BTS type, SBTS, is introduced with its three key functionalities: Common Transport,
Common Operability, and System Module sharing with shared RF fibers. SRAN BTS can
coexist in the same network with dedicated RAT BTSs.

In Single RAN all radio technologies are provided at the same BTS site more cost
efficiently than in previous solutions. Single RAN introduces Common OAM functionality
with one management system. All network elements related to the Single RAN site are
integrated into the same NetAct.

2.3 Benefits of SBTS

Single RAN roll-out practices bring operators the following benefits:

up to three radio technologies in one BTS at one site

one common site configuration for the SBTS site, instead of different RF sharing
configurations (less configurable parameters and reduced complexity)
one common transport and transport configuration for the SBTS site
one software packet for SBTS including needed software components for all included
technologies
one software download and activation process for SBTS, instead of separate RAT
specific software download processes with possible software compatibility issues

2.4 Pre-requisites

2.4.1 Hardware

New Flexi Multiradio 10 System Module hardware (Factory Default setting)

2.4.2 Software and other Files

Software level should be FDSW 1.1 (FDSW1.0_PR_FD1405_317_00)

SCF file for commissioning

2.4.3 Tools

A laptop(should have enough power backup (~1 hrs) for login locally to FSMF
Laptop Firewall & Antivirus should kept in disable mode
LAN (RJ-45) cable to connect laptop to FSMF
T20 tool Kit for opening BTS Box front cover.

2.4.4 Applications

Compatible BTS manager to local login

SBTS software package in laptop

SBTS16.2_1.0.2 (SBTS16.2_ENB_A53_0110_001659_000054.zip)

Web Browser to connect to SBTS after conversion

Supported browsers

Chrome, latest available version, 32 bit version is suggested, for both the Windows and
Linux operating systems.
Internet Explorer 11, latest available version, with latest updates installed, for the Windows
operating system.
Firefox, latest available 32 bit version, for both the Windows and Linux operating systems

2.4.5 Other Verification

Check the site router and transport network with IP planning (addresses, VLANs, routing, QoS) as
well as remote-end configuration for the new common transport

2.5 Schedule

As this process involve upgrading and commissioning of new FSMF so no need for outage
approval from operator before commencement of activity. But if any existing technology
(3G/2G) is migrating on SBTS then need to take outage approval for same

2.6 Back-ups

Current Snapshot of existing BTS (3G/2G), shifting to New SBTS

Current backup commissioning file(3G/2G), shifting to New SBTS

2.7 Performance Dump

a) Please take Pre-KPIs and Reports for last 5 days from the day you want to migrate existing
BTS to SBTS. So same can be used for pre-post comparison (Recommended in case Pilot)

b) Please get the Pre-drive test done for existing Technology before Migration so that same
can be checked for pre-post comparison

2.8 Notification

Before starting the activity

Inform all respective stack holders before starting the activity.

(This will vary depending on the customer and circle. It should be previous agreed.)

During activity if any problem faced

Inform PM and TL at first then all respective stack holders.

(This will vary depending on the customer and circle. It should be previous agreed.)
.

3 Steps for Commissioning New FSMF to SBTS

3.1 Back-Up

Please ensure that you have proper backup and soft wares as mentioned in prerequisite

3.2 Pre-Checks

Check for alarms with severity 2 & 3 (Major/Critical) on existing BTS, which is going to shift on new
FSMF (SBTS)

3.3 Conversion of Factory Default FSMF module to SBTS (SBTS16.2_1.0.1)

Add hardware and cable.

Add new hardware like FBBC cards etc. and do the cabling between a system module, RF
modules, and antennas as per SBTS profile. As each SBTS profile is different.
Note: If existing BTS (3G/2G) shifting on new SBTS, then do connect those RMs to FSMF now
Please check Appendix 5.1 for profiles details

Power On the FSMF

Connect to the BTS and perform authentication using BTS Site Manager
Authentication is enabled with the default username/password
(Nemuadmin / nemuuser)
Note: It is advised to have FDSW Site Manager installed in Laptop for SBTS SW upgradation
in new FSMF.

Select the Activate SW after Update check box to enable the activation of the new
software in after uploading of software. Then click the Update button

The SW download takes about 25 minutes, depending on the number of items to be

downloaded and the DCN bandwidth connection, for example.
The Update Progress steps show the transfer status. Wait for the SW update to finish. The
SW will be activated and the site will be reset.
After BTS Site SW is updated to SRAN and site reset, accessing the site by the BTS Site
Manager will no longer be possible. Connection by SBTS Element Manager via WEB Browser

5.2 Troubleshooting for RF module not detecting after commissioning

Ensure Radio module compatibility as per SBTS profile. No other type of radio module will be
detected, which is not defined SBTS profile
Check for Cabling connection between FSMF and RM. It should be exactly as defined in SBTS
profile
Check for SFP (Speed). It should be as defined as SBTS profile
Check for SFP Make. It should be same at both end, FSMF and Radio Modules
If all ok above, try resetting Radio module

5.3 IP Connectivity test

Login to SBTS Element manager via Web browser
