The Huntersville Police Department is sad to announce Detective

Kim Nesbitt was killed in an automobile accident early Monday morning in Catawba County,
North Carolina. Detective Nesbitt, of Mooresville was off-duty at the time of the accident. A
passerby located the crash site and contacted emergency services at approximately 6:00 a.m.
Troopers said Nesbitt over corrected after her right side wheel went off the road. She crossed
over both lanes, went into a ditch and then crashed into a tree, troopers said. They said speed was
not a factor in the crash. She died at the scene of the crash. No one else was in the car during the
crash, and no other vehicles were involved. Nesbitt has worked for the Huntersville Police
Department since 2007. She was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division at the time of
her death.

During her time at the Huntersville Police Department as a General Assignment Detective,
Detective Nesbitt had advanced through the career ladder to achieve Senior Police Officer
designation. She had worked several felony cases this year and helped prosecute numerous
suspects. In addition to solving crimes at Joe Gibbs Racing and Birkdale Golf Course, she
recently obtained warrants on a subject for counterfeiting U S Currency. She passed on the
information to agencies in the area and several agencies took out warrants on the same person. A
search warrant of the residence turned up a color printer and counterfeit bills. Detective Nesbitt
received numerous letters of appreciation from citizens and other law enforcement departments.
She maintained a professional reputation with other law enforcement agencies and her co-
workers.

In September 2009, Detective Nesbitt was awarded the Co-Worker of the Month for her
outstanding work and above and beyond effort during the investigation of a substantial amount
of property damage that occurred at the Birkdale Golf Course. This investigation led to the arrest
of the nine individuals that were responsible for the crimes.

Detective Nesbitt was a very caring, dedicated and hard working member of the Huntersville
Police Department family and she will be greatly missed. The Huntersville Police Department
wishes to send condolences, support and prayers to the entire Nesbitt family concerning this
tragic loss. The Department appreciates her honorable service to the Town of Huntersville and
the Huntersville Police Department.
