I make this declaration based on my personal knowledge, and if called as a witness, I could and would testify to the following matters: 2, Tama family friend of Daniel Ramirez Medina, { have known Daniel for about ten years. Before moving to Washington, I used to see and speak to Daniel frequently. Daniel often came to my house to hang out and watch television, talk, or [work on a car. I often saw Daniel at family gatherings like barbecues and family celebrations. The last time I saw Daniel was on December of 2016. Daniel is very interested in fixing cars, and since I’m a mechanic, we spend a lot of time together }working on them. 3. Daniel is extremely kind, calm, generous, and very humble. But I think the best way to describe him is as a little kid at heart. Daniel is very family oriented and will do anything he can to help out his family and loved ones. He spends most of his time hanging out at home and talking with family. I have never known him to be a vvery outgoing person, or a person who likes to go out and party. He prefers to be at home, with his son. Even at parties, he does not like to dance or drink but instead prefers to hang out with his family and enjoy the moment with them. 4. ‘Daniel's life revolves around his son and his mother. Daniel is so loving towards his son. Every decision and every opportunity is about Daniel Jr. It was Daniel's son that made me realize how much of alittle kid Daniel is at heart. He will do anything to make his son smile. Daniel is generally quiet, but when he plays around| [with his son, he will play peek-a-boo just to make him laugh. 5. Daniel moved to Washington to look for a better job. He had no problems ‘with anyone in California and he was not running from gang problems here. He left leccause he heard that there were better job opportunities for him in Washington and since his brother was already living there he figured he would try his luck out there. 6. Daniel's reason for looking for a better job is his son. For example, when Dariiel’and I'vorked on cars, together, we would sométimes gato-tie local AutoZone and often take Daniel Jr. along with us. Sometimes when we'd go, Daniel Jr. would grab a candy bar. I know it is a small thing, but I noticed Daniel never said “no” to him. He wanted to see his son with a smile on his face. 7. Daniel got a tattoo shortly after he turned 18. Daniel's tattoo says “BCS” and has a star undemeath it. “BCS” stands for “Baja California Sur.” Daniel told me that he wanted to have a memory of where he grew up and how far he had come. To Daniel, the tattoo has absolutely no gang connection. 8. Daniel is not a gang member. He has never been in a gang or been affiliated with people who are part of gangs. Daniel is the opposite of the kind of person who would typically be in a gang, I have never known Daniel to have a conflict with anyone he interacts with, To the contrary, Daniel gets along with everyone he meets and he stays away from trouble. He avoids arguments because he says he prefers to be at peace with everyone, 9. When I found out Daniel was accused of being a gang member 1 was in disbelief. Daniel actively stays out of trouble. He is a dedicated father, son, and brother| as well as a benefit to the commumity. He is not a threat to anyone. Over the past weeks, I have been shocked whenever something comes up on the news about Daniel's alleged gang affiliation. The other day I saw a news report that said that Daniel left California because of gang issues, which is simply not true. I think it is very important that Daniel is released. His family misses him lot. His son asks for him every day. The other day, 1 was with his family watching the ‘news coverage on Daniel and a picture of him came up on TV. Instantly, his son Pointed to the ‘TV and started yelling, “Dad, Dad!” It is hard to explain to Daniel Jr. }why his dad is not around and is not calling him. 1 know Daniel must also be going through a lot right now. His son is his life and I know there is not a single moment }when he doesn’t think of his son and misses him.
