The Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), a premier national institute has
been given the mandate of integrating development, environment and conservation
and livelihood management into the government, corporate and industrial sectors. It
produces world class professionals in this unique sector.
The Post Graduate Diploma in Forestry Management (PDGFM) is a course that is
constantly evolving to meet the challenges and rapidly changing dynamics of market,
society and the environment in the current scenario of globalization and liberalization.
This flagship program of IIFM, since its inception, has been at the helm of developing
the most vibrant and responsible managers, with knowledge and skills required for the
holistic and green development of the country and the world.
PGDFM students have firmly established themselves in India and all over the world
over the last 27 years. They have not only performed with excellence in the fields of
development, environment and conservation & livelihood management in which they
specialize, but many have gone on to play traditional business management roles,
where they bring their unique perspective to obtain high success.
Each year at IIFM we have adapted the course to take into account contemporary
developments in our allied sectors, and this is reflected in the expertise of our graduates.
I fully expect that the multidisciplinary and holistic approach that characterizes our
students will contribute richly to the success of the organizations that recruit them
alongside the interests of the students.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Forestry Management is continuously adapting itself


to develop students passionate about the environment into mature professionals
who can steer organizations of various kinds through new challenges. Our teaching
methods and courses build the students capacity to understand concepts and their
practical implications- through summer internships, field work, academic depth, and
an emphasis on developing holistic and creative thinking.
As we begin our 27th year of placements, I am sure that you will share our
confidence in our students- they have been forged in the fire of our demanding
program, and are emerging into a changing world, ready to be the leaders of
tomorrow- leaders with the knowledge and capability to manage environmentally,
economically and socially balanced growth wherever they go. For the last
quarter century, our students have achieved success in various sectors including-
conservation, consultancy, corporate social responsibility, development, ecotourism,
environment, forestry, livelihood, microfinance, research, education, multilateral
agencies and the corporate world. In India and all over the world, our alumni are in
positions of responsibility in more than a hundred organizations, and are a testament
to the excellence of our program.
I am excited to present to you the 27th batch of graduates of our flagship program,
the PGDFM. At the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) in Bhopal, faculty
and researchers constantly strive to produce knowledge useful for organizations
managers in the areas of development, environment, natural resource management
and allied sectors. We use this knowledge in our teaching in ways that we believe will
benefit our students and the organizations that they join.

ready to be employed from April 2016. They are diverse in terms of academic,
professional and cultural backgrounds, but they all have a burning desire to succeed.

About Established in 1982 as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment,


Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, IIFM was conceptualized in response
to the recommendations of the National Commission on Agriculture. The impetus

IIFM generated by these recommendations culminated in an alliance with the Indian Institute
of Management, Ahmedabad through which the philosophy and raison dtre of IIFM was
evolved. The Swedish International Development Agency also contributed financially and
technically in establishing the Institute. Since its inception, IIFM has been home to some
of the most brilliant young minds who are constantly raising the bar of excellence in this
dynamic field.
Situated in the City of Lakes, the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal is uniquely
positioned in South Asia in its endeavour to blend the concepts of environment and
development management with corporate management expertise.

Practical Exposure and Industry Relations


IIFM believes in the importance of giving its students extensive practical exposure

and live projects. A ten-week compulsory Summer Internship provides an opportunity
for students to apply academic knowledge to real time management problems.
A 21-day-long field trip in first year and 15-day-long field trip in second year are
conducted during the programme to provide hands-on ground experience. Guest
lectures provide students with a chance to interact with representatives of the
corporate world and learn about the latest management practices.
The Summer Internship and Placements 2015 like always, have received tremendous
support from the Industry. The National event COALESCENCE, the guest
lectures, frequent interactions with alumni and other industry experts have attracted

Pedagogy
IIFM provides the contemporary classroom learning using methods like case

literature on various topics given as assignments and presentations. Subjects
like Natural Resource Management in Rural Development (NRD) are taught
from a conservation as well as development perspective so that students
can develop a holistic understanding of the critical issues related to natural
