As Congress continues to debate how to repeal the Affordable Care Act, we share your concern about
the fate of children, seniors, veterans, working families, people with disabilities and other vulnerable
citizens who depend on Medicaid. Through the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid expanded dramatically.
The program now covers over 70 million Americans, including 566,400 in our state.
We understand that while you are in Washington, you will participate in a closed-door meeting with
several governors to agree on a Medicaid plan. Based on press descriptions, this agreement would
include either block grants or caps that would substantially reduce federal funds for Medicaid over a
multi-year period, threatening health care for hundreds of thousands of Nevada residents. We are
opposed to block grants and caps, and any agreement that would cut the federal contribution to
Medicaid in our state. Let us be clear that a cap rations care, and will cause children and seniors to
lose their care and middle class families to pay more.
We urge you to protect the health care of our people and not agree to any plan that reduces federal
support for our most vulnerable people.
Sincerely,
