Sistema de escritura[editar]
El ingls usa el alfabeto latino sin ninguna adicin, salvo en las palabras tomadas
directamente de otros idiomas con abecedarios diferentes. Sin embargo histricamente
el ingls antiguo haba usado signos especiales para algunos de sus sonidos: < , , ,
, , , , , , , , , . , > y las correspondientes minsculas < , , , , , , ,
, , , , , , , >.
Otras caractersticas de la ortografa moderna del ingls se caracteriza por la existencia de
una gran cantidad de contracciones:
They're, contraccin de They are = Ellos/as son/estn.
She isn't o She's not, contraccin de She is not = Ella no es.
I'd eat, contraccin de I would eat = Yo comera
You'll see, contraccin de You will see = T vers
Cabe decir que estas contracciones suelen utilizarse mayoritariamente en
el habla coloquial y en menor medida en la formal.
